Drive Flanges?

Se7enUp

Recommended Posts

While changing my wheel bearings I noticed that one of my drive flanges was a very loose fit on the driveshaft.

Looking at replacements and I seem to have a choice of three....

Standard (Pattern part)

Standard (OE)

Uprated (Paddocks special)

Any recommendations.

The Defenders main use will be road and light off-road.

Any advice and or shared experience appreciated!

Drive flanges (known as drive members), are all cast iron, and tend to wear in preference to the shaft itself (as long as there is sufficient lubrication inside the hub cap). Dry/rusty may mean that the shaft itself has worn as well, so check the splines carefully. One drive member is much the same as another in my opinion - barring some dodgy manufacturers :)

Les.
