sally
Can anyone help please. We have a TD5 on a V plate. It has a genuine 50k miles. Been running fine until a couple of days ago when it started to misfire and run really rough. Have read various bits of info on the net and have spoken to Landrover Mechanic who says it sound like the wiring harness. We have taken out the connector that clicks into the the front left hand side of the rocker cover and it was full of oil. There was also a lot of oil on top of the rocker cover appearing to be coming from where you top up the oil. However the cap to this was screwed down really firmly. We have sprayed the connector with a carb cleaner and it does seem to be a little better, but its still not running properly. We cant get the rocker cover off as one of the bolts has been rounded. Could there be oil leaking inside the rocker cover and into the connector. Or as we have cleaned the connector out could it be something more sinister such as an injector. We are hoping not. We are not mechanically minded but dont need a big bill at the moment.
simonr
Sally - that's really what this thread is about! Open up the box under the drivers seat - where the ECU lives. There are two connectors on the side. Unplug the Red one (IIRC) and see if there is oil in there too. If there is, clean it thoroughly (carb cleaner is good). Fill the connector space with petroleum jelly and plug back in. It should cure the misfire - for a while at least. Si

Just want to make sure we are looking at the right thing.

sally
Found the ECU - not under drivers seat - under bonnet near battery. Pulled out red connector - full of oil. Cleaned out as advised. Went for short drive, thought we had cracked it. No such luck - still running like a bag of spanners. Any more ideas please. thanks Sally & George
Les Henson
Oil in the loom isn't the fault - merely an indicator that there is a fault with the loom. Les.
