Refurb advice for a newbie!

Recommended Posts

Greetings all....

I'll say Hi first of all! I'm a long time lurker, but a first time poster.

As such, I would appreciate some advice. I'm undertaking a refurb of my 1984 lhd 90. The landy is getting a new gearbox and engine; it will have a bare metal respray; and get a new galvanised chassis..... so, a pretty simple question.......what order should I do it in? Shall I do the chassis followed by the respray and then the new engine & gearbox, or, shall I do the new engine & gearbox and then the chassis & respray?

Also, does anyone have any idea where I can get a new lhd dash? Mine has been seriously damaged when the landy was stolen and vandalised (hence the need for much of the above work), however, I have no idea where to get the dash. No success at all going to the local dealer. And worse still going to a so called local specialist. I have spoken to a few places on the wrong side of the pond but surely there is somewhere in Britain rather than resorting to the States?

Any help will be much appreciated!

I would take it apart, get a galv chassis, paint all the relevant bits while they're off the truck, then re-assemble with the new engine & box. Optionally re-furb other bits while they're off the truck (eg axles, much easier on the bench than on the floor). Of course the re-assembly w/should involve new bushes, brake lines, fuel lines, hoses, nuts & bolts, etc.

An LHD dash should be the same thing as an RHD dash just with the binnacle bolted on the other side as far as I'm aware.

Dunno if this helps or not but I like the video :P :

Many thanks all for the advice....and apologies for taking so long to come back and read the replies...I had to go away all of a sudden and am still away.

I do like the idea of doing it all while it has been taken apart, however, the engine and gearbox are being done by the engineer who has looked after "landy 1" since I've had it, and I don't really trust it with anyone else....and the chassis and respray are being done elsewhere.
