Year of reg different from plate?

Im looking at another Landy purchase, a series 2a which is advertised as a 1969 but is on an M registered plate. Now this means to me that the vehicle is a 1973 vehicle and therefore NOT tax exempt as advertised. Am I correct on this or do I really need to see the V5 first? I havent actually looked at the vehicle yet but dont want to waste my time if its not Tax exempt.

Thanks Neil

Would have been registered with the then current year letter when it came out of military service, you can IIRC get this changed to the age related year of build. need to consult DVLA to do that.

That sounds interesting, then it would carry the same age suffix as me!

sometime ago, the civvy registering of ex-military vehicles was changed from the year of release from service to more accuratly the year of entry or year of actual build, another place to contact would be the ex-military land rover association http://emlra.org/web/index.htm
