kingdong2
Hi guys just been doing some research on the d 2 td5 auto box ( being sluggesh ) and found out that the d 2 auto box is the same auto box used in the jaguar xjs 3.6 auto, the td5 engine is 135 bhp and the xjs 3.6 engine is 225 bhp so obviusly the td5 engine is well under powered for the auto box, a std remap will take the td5 engine to 170 bhp or there abouts, so to get the best performance from the auto box and engine would a stage 2 remap be a better option rather than a stage 1 remap, what bhp would the stage 2 remap take the td5 engine to, will the td5 take the stress or will the engine need to be moded and does anyone know how much a stage 2 remap will cost. graham __________________ 03 d2 td5 auto e.s. Bowie69
It'll be the torque that kills the gearbox, not the BHP....
Ratty43
The 3.6 had 249 ft/Ib at the start rising to 278 on later models so you have a bit of space to play with on that front too.
FridgeFreezer
Presumably very similar if not identical to the P38 which had the 4.6. Given that R380's are 380n/m rated that gives a clue, however gearboxes do seem to have a harder time with the torque spikes from diesels so I'd want a bit of a safety margin. TD5 should be a bit smoother than a 2/300 type. Stage1/2 depends very much on what the stages mean and how deep your pockets are, there is a law of diminishing returns with engine tuning, both in £/hp gained and also engine reliability/longevity.
