chrome balls

Recommended Posts

i have a 2001 td5 defender, with a knackered swivel ball...

as far as i am aware this axle is the same as the 300 tdi defender front axle.

i also have a 91 disco front axle (imperial, fat mushroom style shafts) and some swivels from a mid eighties rangie, both of which have really good chrome balls.

can anyone confirm or otherwise if i can use the chrome balls off the disco or rangie axles on the defender?

cheers

It would appear from the parts info that they are the same. For example, FRC7065 is listed as being for Defenders and also Disco 1 and RRC to '98 and '94 respectively.

What side is it that's knackered? I have a nearside 300Tdi one in the workshop that's in good nick (if I remember correctly), if the Disco/RRC route doesn't work out.

Edit: Although reading it, it appears they're not handed

No, they are not handed

The differences are more between bush types - ie railjko or needle roller.

Just aviod early 6 bolt types vs 7 bolt types and you should be fine

I have interchanged so many over the years I have lost count - and been told it wasn't

possible either

Its shafts CVs and stubs and hubs that vary - not swivels, well not what your mentioning above :)

You'll be fine
