Refurb alloy wheels before new Grabber AT2's fitted

I have some 18" wheels which I picked up cheap and want to clean them and repaint them. I have found some refurb sites but as they want £50 + VAT per wheel and I didnt want to spend that much I wondered if anyone had used chemicals to strip the wheels and then primer and paint.

They are only getting some Grabber AT2 for winter and use in the alps so I am not fussed about a pristine finish.

If anyone has any low cost sources for alloy wheel reurb and paint (more paint than refurb).

thanks

Robert

I'd be amazed if you got them professionally done cheaper than that.

I do SMART repairs for a living & hate alloys with a veangeance. They are a PITA to work on, and very time consuming. Unless I am VERY VERY quiet I point any enquirers towards one of the wheel specialists. The wheels on mine are getting tatty & bubbly (3-spoke RRC standard alloys)& they'll be going to a specialist!

If you do want to do a quickie job yourself just to tidy a set of knockabouts get them beadblasted (NOT grit)then just paint with whatever you have to hand. By all means try paint stripper but I suspect you'll get fed up very quickly!

Thanks sounds like I will have to find someone local who does bead blasting or just clean off the bad bits with a drill and wire attachment. Like I said they are only for some grabbers on my p38 in winter and summer in the alps.

thanks
