Gearboxes

I have an '87 Defender 110 2.5na.. Basically the gearbox decided to break, blow a big crack in the bottom and now wont move forward or backwards, but i can still select gears..

I have gearbox and transfer box out of a discovery 200tdi on a 'L' plate.. I would like to know if the gearbox will fit in my defender, or will I have to make modifications to make it fit?

I possibly might be able to get the 200tdi engine to go with it.. as I was thinking about doing the conversion a while ago..

But really I just want to get my defender going because of the bad weather, so im looking for a quick solution..

Sorry guys im a bit of noob to all this lol.. hope it makes sense..

thanks, matt.

If i was you i would get the 200tdi engine and replace both, if your going to replace the gear box and have to make modifocations you may as well change the engine save the gearbox mods.

Putting the 200TDi in is a good idea, but it doesn't save the gearbox mods as the Disco gear shifters are further back than Defender ones.

Same body, different back end:
