rocky
Hi, Anyone know where I can buy an underbonnet liner for my puma 90? It's not for noise reduction but to keep the frost off the engine. It's going to be below -20 overnight here, it is already -11!! Regards, rocky
western
provided the coolant antifreeze is at the correct strength doubt a blanket over the top is going to help, the engine block will still get cold. or get a electric blanket for it & plug in overnight
rocky
It's not the block so much as the injector pipes and rail. When we had -20 a couple of weeks ago I lifted the bonnet to find everything sparkling and white with frost, even inside the vehicle was white. I had to put a fan heater on the top of the engine to get it to run. Since then I have been using an anti-waxing additive which seems to be working (I'll find out in the morning!) I just want to keep the frost off the pipes and rail without having to keep putting a fleece over the engine overnight. Rocky
Disco-Ron
For god sake remember it in the morning though........ a couple of yrs ago now, my cousin wrapped his mk1 escort engine in a blanket, and two months later went and started the car...... he got it right up to normal on the temp guage before the car burst into flames.... and gutted his pride and joy........ he's now rebuilding it into what it was ...... again! rocky
I have a red ticket stuck in the middle of the steering wheel. I don't think the insurance company would look too kindly on me for incinerating it. Still I wouldn't have to worry about it freezing!! rocky
Happyoldgit
Back in the day I used to just chuck an old army blanket over the block or failing that little paraffin stoves under the sump used to be popular back in the day. You could try a block heater or a coolant pre heater like a Hotstart or Hotfrog or an oil pan heater pad. Of course there's the Webasto Thermo Top etc.
