steerngo
my 1999 diesel freelander fan has started to come on even when cold and the engine has a odd power drop now and again, Ive checked oil and water levels, and renewed the fuel filter. now wondering if its a sensor or ecu type problem! any ideas? ken
tony_rigby@btinternet.com
Hi Ken Failure of the engine temp sensor or circuit will cause the cooling fan to run all the time' Regards Tony
FridgeFreezer
What Tony said - if the coolant sensor goes the ECU doesn't know how hot it is, so runs the fan all the time just in case.
steerngo
Thanks for the advice. the fan is only intermittent, Iam beginning to think the prob was related to the battery in the door locking fob as it has been ok since I replaced the battery. ken
defv890
hi does your freelander have air con ? if it does it will do as you report when the a/c compressor cuts in engine rpm will drop and recover and cooling fans will cut in & out. also if a/c is switched off and heater controls set to screen a/c is also automatical turned on. hope this helps

FridgeFreezer
You mean it wasn't the battery in the keyfob after all? Have you checked (cleaned, vaselined) the connector for the coolant sensor, or changed the sensor?
