carlosbeldia
Land Rover asks ACEA B2 for 300 TDi. However, my vendor is telling me their Rimula Rx4 (ACEA E3) exceeds ACEA B2 requirements, simply because E is after B. Is this correct? I think and understand B and E protocols are completly differents codes for applications.
fozsug
A/B : gasoline and diesel engine oils E : Heavy Duty Diesel engine oils
carlosbeldia
Yes, I know, but E exceeds B needs?
western
Yes, I know, but E exceeds B needs? so then it meets B requirements & is OK for your engine.
carlosbeldia
But I don't know, There is a Rimula R4 meeting E7. Howeveer, my common oil 5w40 A3/B3 really looks different, kind of more fluent...... In ACEA parammeters, they mention E as a completely different oil than B, and the description applies for different engines (low rpm, big displacement, great times of stationary RPM)

I use 15w40 in my 300tdi with no problems at all, so i would say that it will be fine
western
300tdi should have engine oil meeting or exceeding RES.22.OL.PD-2 or CCMC PD-2 or API CD 15W/40 for ambient temp range from -10 to +50 degree C. refer to the oil specification bit in this link hopefully it will answer your question. Mack
ACEA specs do not relate to viscosity and "exceeding" does not meen is better for your engine. Same for transmission oils: GL-5 is not better than GL-4. There are exceptions though. http://www.motul-lubricantes.com/eftm/definicion_normas_ACEA_motor_liviano.pdf http://www.lubrizol.com/EuropeanEngineOils/RelativePerformanceToolIntro.html
carlosbeldia
However, Land Rover updated oil specs for 300 Tdi, asking for ACEA A3/B3 and superior. Is ACEA E7 superior to A3/B3?. I've been analizing ACEA guidelines finding they are no compatible in test engine, ACEA asks for different parammeters. Seeing this, I think they are not fully interchangeable, am I right?
