Puma engine Fuel Primer

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I have a couple of services on a Puma engine 90 coming along, and was wondering if i "needed" the fuel priming pump tool jobby ? i have had a google about and some say "no problems if the filter is prefilled before fitting" and read other reports that state it is " a must" to do the job ?? I dont mind purchasing the tool but only if its required, Many thanks for input,

I know you can *usually* do it without the primer if you fill the filter up, whether it works 100% every time I am not so sure ... and it would be a bloody long walk to collect one! The special tool is stupidly expensive but you can make one all you need is a £5 primer bulb (like an outboard motor would have fitted) a fitting to go into the end of the pipe at the engine end, and a pipe to go from the other end into a bucket. Can't remember what the genuine special tool costs but I think as usual it's something stupid like £100.
