wheatfielder
Until funds allow me to think about new wheels for my 1991 '90', I am in need of removing the surface rust and repainting the original 16ins white painted wheels. Can anyone recommend the best paint to apply by brush to achieve a reasonable job to last a couple of years at least and any other experiences of making these wheels look better, many thanks. farmerboy_y2k
When I get that far down on the to do list mine are getting black hard implement enemal - available from most farm supplies places or paint stockists. It's what we paint farm machinery with and lasts well.
sharpy
Dude for what it costs a roll of masking tape, couple of cans of undercoat and two or three cans of top coat you will get a much better finish. Leave it until a warmish day and that will improve the shine on the wheels or take them inside to dry, mask around the rim and try to get it behind the lip of the rim, when you get all the way around then lay sheets of newspaper on top of the tape and stick that down also to cover the tyre. tape the valve up and spray away
Frax
Easy way to do it is – let the pressure out of the tyre and then burst the tyre away from the rim, this will allow you to get under the rim. I have covered the tyre in newspaper and then used a bit of rope and jammed it between the tyre and the rim and cut of excess paper. Works well and when finished just re-inflate the tyre. TS888
Hammerite comes in white, and brushes on and leaves a reasonably smooth finish if you use a good brush. It's also available in spray. You'll want to sand or wire wheel off as much rust as possible, and wipe the wheels down with degreaser (or just wash with dish liquid and dry) before you paint. RustyNissanPrairie
Rustoleum-better than hammerite.
