Guest wunntenn
Fitting a new stainless exhaust on my 110 - stainless lasts but from experience I know that the clamps between sections are complete rubbish and will dissolve in a couple of years (especially in our salt-laden Scottish winters). Any suggestions for paint treatment on the clamps to prevent corrosion? Hammerite? Red lead? Six coats of high temp lithium grease? What? jad
clamps stainless clamps? you can also get galvanised and zinc plated ones of those. Jad
Guest wunntenn
Nice, but not suitable. The exhaust clamps are roughly triangular shaped, bolt hole in each corner, one on each pipe section, and then bolted across to each other, pulling against the flared ends and pinching the joining piece in between the flared sections. nicks90
when i made my exhaust, i painted the whole thing in high temp anti rust BBQ paint. If it copes with the temps of a BBQ then it will cope with an exhaust clamp. stuff i used was B&Q own brand in matt black. 4 years later my butchered exhaust is still black and rust free. Guest wunntenn
Nick - brilliant solution - didn't think of that one. Cheers!
Retroanaconda
I would hope that on one of those 'full stainless' systems that the clamp plates are stainless too!
Guest wunntenn
Posted Today, 05:30 PMI would hope that on one of those 'full stainless' systems that the clamp plates are stainless too! No chance! All mild steel and cast so far as I can see.
