wack61
I've just sold a load of junk out of my garage on eBay , while looking for the cheapest way of couriering it I found a service called collect + It's run by dhl , you deliver the parcel to a local shop, nearest to me is an off licence and for £3.50 they collect and deliver to a similar shop near the recipient ,up to 10kg with £50 insurance included, you can buy extra up to £300 Dimensions are 30x30x50cm I'm nothing to do with dhl or yodel as its now called just though it might be useful
mickeyw
So do I take it that they'll only collect and deliver from commercial addresses? And what does the local shop get out of this? Does one have to entice their cooperation?
wack61
The £3.50 price is shop to shop, they'll deliver to a home address but it's dearer It works for me because I'm not waiting about for a courier to collect it They have a scanner at the shop, you print a label, attach it, they scan it and give you a tracking receipt You pay online via PayPal or credit card , the shop probably gets 50p a parcel out of it I'd guess
sotal
I used this a while back when purchasing something - it was the service offered by the other party. It was a bit of a pain to be honest, it was a corner shop. When I went in the gentleman in the shop couldn't speak English, after a bit of waving arms etc I got the gist that I'd have to wait for someone else, 10 mins later another lad came in who could speak English but didn't know anything about the Parcel service. He was however able to speak to me and the original gentleman. I then found out I'd have to wait another 10 mins or so. Eventually someone else turned up and was able to get my package. I'd avoid if at all possible in the future!
wack61
That still sounds like less hassle than waiting in all day for them to deliver it
jameslwt
And it's still DHL at the end of the day
Briarston
I've used them once to return an "old unit" brake caliper. I dropped it off a corner shop (yes, they do speak English) which I often use anyway, so very convenient for me. A tracking number allows you to find where it is, and when it's arrived, though the route taken seemed rather roundabout way. I suppose it depends where their sorting depots are.
