2.25D front crankshaft seal replacement

1976 STW D

Recommended Posts

The original seal is double-lip, ca 13mm thick, but the new seal I got is single lip, 9mm. Should be genuine, part no 217400. Is this correct?

Strange, there is no seating for the seal at the inside, it can be pushed straight through the timing cover..

What is the purpose of that round riveted cover? Are you supposed to push the rivets out with a small chisel or dot they have to be drilled out?

You should be able to knock the rivets out from behind with a thin drift rather than having to drill them. On my 2.25P the rivets had no heads on the back. Not sure if the cover is thick enough to accept two seals. Try it and see.
