discomikey
does anyone know which connector is which on a series alternator? i know the normal sized spade connector is for the "exciter wire" but there are 2 other large type spade connectors on it (both seem to be coming from the same output on th alternator) these are where the standard plug goes. there is also another large type spade connector which is on the opposite side of the back of the alternator which i have no clue what is for either i have an ammeter to wire in aswell as the normal 2 wires. simonb
The 2 large blades are the output, the small one next to it is the exciter/warning lamp wire. The other blade away from these 3 is probably for a supression capacitor. You can leave it disconnected. Your ammeter needs to be at least 40A or possibly 50A if you have a higher rated alternator, but it needs to be connected between the alternator output terminals and the battery using thick wire. That is going to be a long run which will drop volts. Personally I wouldn't bother. More useful is a voltmeter which needs just a few mAs from an ignition feed. discomikey
its the standard one in the series 2 dash, so i feel it needs to be wired in, and as its suposed to be a dynamo'd vehicle anyway, im sure the drop in voltage will be made up in the efficiency increase from the upgrade. thanks.
