roguevogue
Does anyone know what other vehicles use the same type of gearbox as a Range Rover 3spd auto but drive direct to the rear axle rather than into a transfer box? Does anyone know if there is a conversion kit available to do the same job? Has gearboxdave made it to the new forum?
white90
Rover SDI did In scrappy races the ice cream van had a rover SDI gearbox on the V8 as 4wd wasn't allowed IIRC propshaft angle will be intresting
roguevogue
Thanks for that, wasn't sure that the gearboxes are the same, will investigate... It's all very hypothetical at the moment.
white90
IIRC the rover used the LT77
RPR
The three speed auto on the RR was a Torque Flight 727, using a International Harvester/Scout bellhousing with an adapter ring to the Rover V8. Many Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge cars used the 727 in direct drive to the rear wheels. The tailshaft assembly should be capable of adaptation for this purpose as that's how it was mated to the LT230 transfer box. The TF727 is an extremely robust transmission and served behind the original Hemi and early Cummins Tubo Diesel engines in Dodge trucks. Bomag
Robust it might be, but mine has a very bad clonk when selecting R. This only happens once its started to warm up. Its had the bands adjusted as per the haynes, but it makes no difference. Its sending a big shock loading through the complete drivetrain Maybe this is why a previous owner had over filled it
