coachman
Hello again OVAL brethren , I am in a bit of a quandry ,the diff lock on my 94 auto Discovery is siezed up ( so I am told ) what are the chances of getting stuck if I took it `green laning ` and encountered some ,forbid the stuff, MUD ,I am used to my Freelander s brain working it out and I just drive .but I am `new`to a `proper Land Rover` . Would the vehicle get stuck or would it drive out ,I don`t know ,has any one out there come across this problem ,further more have you any advise to give to a novice . I once took my Freelander Td4 ( 2001 type )on a Freelander club green laning day ,we went on tracks I would not have taken a JCB,and seeing as the car was a `shiny` I was very apprehensive anyway all went well and all tracks ( rock strewn passes) were dealt with with much ability from this Freelander , the day finished of by driving the `coach road ` north of Grasmere and south of Threkeld ( I should have put this on a Freelander page ,ah well .coachman . SPendrey
There's no doubt having diff-lock will help you in slippery conditions, but I often do green lanes without using it... even muddy ones. There are plenty of "how to" guides on releasing the mechanism, it took about 2 hours on mine start-to-finish. So, while I'm not answering your question exactly, because one day you'll get stuck and say "you said...", if you're out with at least one other vehicle then just go for it.
