explain ECU serial number

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I need to try with a friends spare ecu in my defender. But how does the ECU serial/id no. work? Would be fun to know if it will work with my engine before I drive all the way to pick it up and change the injector codes. We don't really know how new the ecu is, but it should be for a early td5 (probably)...

Unfortunately I dont have the number in front of me, but can some one give me an example code and a explenation?

ps

Its going to sit in a td5 10p 1999 def

Many thanks.

If you have a Nanocom or similar you should be able to get it to work. You'll need to change the injector codes, get the ECU to learn the immobiliser code and possibly change the throttle pedal type (2 or 3 track).

If it's a Discovery ECU it gets more difficult but if you ignore the temp. gauge it should still run it.
