fozsug Posted February 19, 2012 Share Posted February 19, 2012 As the title says, ive got a 4.2 1HD-T Engine that i want to put into a Disco or RRC, but i dont have a toyota manual gearbox, but i do have a few R380 gearboxes, so has anyone mounted an R380 to a 4.2 1HD-T ?? forkrentfitter Posted February 19, 2012 Share Posted February 19, 2012 my mate had one mated to an lt77s a few years ago,it worked but soon knackered the box due to the torque the engine produces,although he did a lot of towing with it,i am sure you know but 380=380nm of torque which the r380 is rated to handle. ToyRoverlander Posted February 19, 2012 Share Posted February 19, 2012 Don't bother with a LR gearbox, use the toyota one instead. It too has an offset rear output. tacr2man Posted February 21, 2012 Share Posted February 21, 2012 You have to be careful with LC gearboxes , as some have a weak 5th , they even had a warning in the handbook that advises against towing in 5th , they put it as "to retain better control of the load" I used to point this passage out to owners when I recovered them !, they started fitting the better gearbox in the topline models first HTSH Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
ToyRoverlander Posted February 21, 2012 Share Posted February 21, 2012 That would be the older style H55 you're referring to. Those have the tendency to jump out of 5th on overrun when worn. Those are not fitted behind 1HD-FT(E) as far as I know, only behind 1HZ. 1HDFT(E) would have a H150/H151 IIRC. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
