PieEater3142
I have a safari rear door from a 300tdi that I have cut down for my project, I am going to fit a heated screen into it (determined to be able see out on short journeys). The door has the holes for the ali channel that gets screwed in to hold the glass. I've seen some safari doors that seem to have a rubber on them. Do they need the ali channel even if they have a rubber? And if not is it possible to put the rubber on an older version safari door? Thanks in advance
Jon White
The rubber is for the later models with the different shaped glass. You need some sealant and the aluminium strips on an early one. Jopn
PieEater3142
Damn, OK thought I might, but was holding out hope that I could just fit it with a rubber. No chance I can just get different glass and it will fit on the lip then?
jbs
My rear door glass is held in with sikaflex and nothing else, not even the Ali strips-It's been like that for at least 6 months that i remember John
PieEater3142
how did you keep the pressure on it to get it to seal?
Diablo
I've got the same: the ali strips just cause silly amounts of corrosion as for the pressure, I don't know. It happened when I got a new door courtesy of someone else's insurance.
jbs
PieEater, I used a silicone gun on the tube and applied the sikaflex to the door and then the glass to the door-applied a little bit of pressure and it stuck to the door, I didn't move the vehicle for a few hours as I went and did one or two other pending job's and It's been there ever since, Sikaflex is mega sticky by the way.
