Burnsinbarnsley
Hi, just in the middle of changing rear leafs and the rear shackles seem seized! Should they hang quite slack or is it normal and they have to be under tension??? Please help!!! Kind regards Paul!!
snailracer
I think they should be able to move. I've recently replaced mine and the bushes as they were seized and perished. The workshop manual says not to tighten the bolts until the spring is deflected to its mid point. For an 88 it gives the measurement between the chassis and axle as 142-146mm For a 109 it gives the measurement between the chassis and axle as 158-162mm It then says the nuts should be tightened to 60-70lbf ft Hope that helps
Burnsinbarnsley
Hi, Thanks for the reply!! The lr in question is an 88" on rangie axles and box!!! Bought her recently and.... What can I say??? (new to landie's and VERY naive!!) The measurements have helped as they have informed me I have an 8" lift!!! No wonder I'm having prop trouble!!! Kind regards, Paul
Snagger
The measurement is between the underside of the rubber bump stops and the top face of the corresponding steel bump plate on the top of the axle, not from the chassis rails to the axle tube.
