One of the lads seems to think that a 2 wheel drive Freelander TD4 Automatic is much more economical on Diesel than a 4 wheel drive version. Now logic tells me this is correct, but can someone confirm it please. I have been toying with the idea for quite a while but didn"t know whether there was anything to gain from doing it. The only bit that's not turning is the propshaft/VCU and that's not all that heavy in comparison to the rest of the car. Think around 2mpg of difference as a rough estimate. nickcc Posted April 13, 2012 Share Posted April 13, 2012 Tried front wheel drive, when waiting for new VCU (and for me to be bothered to fit it) and found consumption about the same, the reason being due to faster acceleration and me having a heavier right foot. RJF Posted April 13, 2012 Share Posted April 13, 2012 Like Nickcc, I ran 2wd whilst swapping VCU bearings. It did seem nippier and I got about 1-2mpg better economy, but that was only a short test and well within the error for such a short test.
