Nigelw
About to put the front axle back together after a couple of weeks being in bits whilst work takes over, but got time now I hope without interruption, but what should I do with the CV joints? My swivels are EP90 filled and will continue to be, but should I fill the CVs with grease before fitting it all together again or just pour a little EP over, assemble and job done? Am only curious as to what others believe best practice?
landroversforever
I normally put a bit of oil in them right before I put them back. I think with oil rather than the (IMO) crappy grease they will fill themselves up OK.
Retroanaconda
They're half-submerged in EP90 when the swivel is re-filled, so I wouldn't worry about pre-lubing them. Spin the wheel a few times before you drop it back to the ground if you really want to get anal about it
Nigelw
I was surprised that the left hand hub a full three drops of oil came out when drained, it was black and stank worse than normal!!! But for how ever long it was running like that none of the components have suffered greatly, bitof wear in the half shaft splines but nothing worse than the original 317,000Kms would indicate! Will fill her up with oil and spin the wheels a few turns
