o_teunico Posted October 15, 2013 Share Posted October 15, 2013 Hi all! Some time ago Bill said that old Rangie radious arms were easy/safe to bent without heating. What about newer (thick) type? If heated, should they be cooled in water (quenching) or it will be better to let them cooling slowly? Can the material be easily welded? bill van snorkle Posted October 15, 2013 Share Posted October 15, 2013 I just cut the pin end off a later RA from an 87 110,and the steel quality appears to be as good as the older ones. which you could tie in knots without the metal cracking. bill van snorkle Posted October 16, 2013 Share Posted October 16, 2013 If you want to bend them sideways to say place the chassis anchors closer together, a 10 ton press is adequate. If you want to bend them vertically towards the thick end to correct castor, then something in the order of 30 tons would be required to bend them cold. Jamie_grieve Posted October 16, 2013 Share Posted October 16, 2013 Have a wee look at P38 arms, they are longer and bent both ways and might be a more suitable starting point for what you have in mind. Correcting castor by bending radius arms doesn't do anything to alleviate the more severe propshaft U joint angles caused by the suspension lift. o_teunico Posted October 16, 2013 Author Share Posted October 16, 2013 With a looooooooooong gearbox combo (longer front prop) and a drop box for the rear that will not be a problem.
