muddyplugger
I was surprised today that when I turned to full lock the battery warning light came on! I did it either lock too. I suspected loose alternator belt, but it seemed ok, the alternator is only a month old too! A quick diagnostic when at full lock of revving engine did not change the light. How wierd is that? western
Can't be related, sounds like a duff alternator, is the light on when engine is at idle ? is the light on with ignition & engine off/keys out off ignition ? if Yes to either the Alternator is faulty
muddyplugger
Cheers Western, but no to both! Everything else is otherwise fine! And I'm not drunk either! Definate battery warning light at the end of each full lock. Move off full lock and it goes out. Maybe that things will slowly get worse over this week and it may be the alternator is duff? Andy
checked BOTH drivebelts are tight? i had this ages ago on my disco Tdi. yes the alternator belt was tight, but the fan belt was loose & as on the disco lump (dunno defenders) the steering pump is driven by the fan belt & then drives the alternator belt it caused the light to go on. Check the alternator/power steering pump mounting to engine block bolts, sounds as though the mounting is moving when the pump is working hard & could be twisting the mount & affecting the Alt's wiring/output. can't think of anything else. Defender 200Tdi has a seperate belt for the power steering pump, Alt belt also drives the fan/water pump.

Aragorn
it will Be slipping belt for sure, i find if u can turn the engine over by turning the alternator pulley its tight enough, although that might be more difficult on a diesel
