WicklowDisco
Hi , as I have only been the owner of a 2002 disco for a week (having owned a 94 way back) I already need the advice of a forum. I got the td5 auto for a loan and I needed top up the oil as it was low, which I did . But I put a bit too much in, it's just over full , seems like a thick thing to do but I was distracted . Anyway it was just over the full mark and I checked it again and read below. So I drove it for 5 mins , and it had slight hesitation starting on the return journey. So I rechecked the oil on the return and yeah it wasn't dipstick measuring off , it was too much oil. So 2 questions: 1. Any thing possibly damaged even though it's running ok after that slow start? 2. Easiest way of getting the oil level right, is it possible to open sump plug and replace while oil is running??? Or am I going to have to drain fully and if so then is it worth going the whole hog and going and oil change? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Steve
Nigelw
If you don't mind getting a sleeve full of oil then yeah you can drop a couple of pints out and then refill to level, depends on how long ago it has had a service mind as I usually associate oil usage with a sign of needing a service(unless a known leak?) so it could well pay to do a full service and be happy knowing it is done. CwazyWabbit
Not sure of the location of the oil filter on a TD5 but you can usually remove half a litre at a time by taking off and draining the oil filter. It's a bit more controlled than taking the sump plug out and then dropping it etc.....
bear
How much over the full mark was it? I occasionaly have it 5 or 6mm over with no problem. Allows for a little leaking But, as has been mentioned, it might be worth doing a service so you have a fresh start. Regards, Griff
