ajh
So; I finally managed to pull the engine this weekend to fix the rear flywheel housing gasket and replace all the bolts and get it all tight again. Then on my FIRST trip out, I got about 20 miles; then heard a bit of a whir/belt like sound, then BANG, then a bigger BANG and things locked up (but the engine kept running, it was locked up even with clutch in. Then got it rolling again, but shifting into gears is next to impossible now, and it doesn't sound good, managed to limp back home... 200TDI, LT77.... Anyone experienced something like this? ajh
I now know what it was; the transmission fluid level was really low; only about 500-700mL came out, and it was BLACK... cleared out the shavings and chunks in the screen and re-filled and it SEEMS to be working OK now... Fingers crossed.
Disco-Ron
low oil level won't create bangs and lock up unless something actually broke getting stuck between two cogs
