Roverdrive
Hi A quick question about the 300tdi FIP. On the overrun, with the throttle pedal in the idle position, is the fuel shut off completely until the revs drop down to the idle RPM, or does the engine receive the "idle" fuelling? Retroanaconda
From what I know of how the FIP works in situations like that the fuel supply is zero, or close to it. I believe the governor handles this though I don't fully understand it. If you go down a hill on overrun you can turn the fuel supply off with the key (watch the steering lock!) and there is no change to the engine RPM, sound or the like. So to me that seems to be that it's not injecting any fuel anyway under those circumstances. This is an interesting document about how the VE pumps (as fitted to 200Tdi/300Tdi) work: BOSCH_VE_PUMPS.pdf I bet the confirmation one way or the other is in there somewhere. Roverdrive
Cheers for that. Some light bed time reading!
Jode
I believe that the pump provides fuel to suit the idle - otherwise the engine would die for lack of fuel (which is of course how the diesel engine is "killed").
