200 Tdi alternator wiring route info (please)

Recommended Posts

Just noticed the big brown wire from the alternator, which comes round the front of the engine and then vanishes into heat sleeve and goes down the rear of the engine behind the lift pump, is rather badly chafed and could do with being replaced.

It was pretty wet this pm when I spotted it so I've not lain underneath to see where it goes yet, but is this a get-wire-yourself-and-put-connectors-on-it job or can you buy a replacement with the appropriate connectors?

Can anyone point me to a wiring diagram that clearly shows where it all goes?

And finally what is the gauge of cable required?

wiring diagram won't show the route,

from alternator, across front of engine between cylinder haed & thermostat housing, along engine right hand side below injectors/glowplugs, to rear then across to multiplugs adjacent to clutch master cylinder.fuel filter on bulkhead.

Not the power wire(s) (that he is asking about). It continues behind the engine and connects to the starter solenoid.

200tdi engine loom is same as the older Turbo Diesel engine loom, http://www.autosparks.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=1402 can sort you a new loom only go upto 65amp alternator cables,

if your alternator is bigger than 65amp you'll need some cable capable of handling a bigger current, to fit between starter motor/battery & alternator.
