need4speed
Ive already got a fair bit of the wiring done. My attention is now being turned to the battery. The only cable ive got is the one that connects battery to fusebox under drivers seat (thanks PaulMc) I know I will need battery to alternator, battery to starter and alternator to starter cables. Is there anything ive forgotten? Oh and I'm using a Bosch 120A alternator if that makes any difference to wire size?
need4speed
Meant to add that untidy birds nest cable routing sets my OCD off, so any pics of really tidy battery installations would be greatly appreciated..
Boris113
Have you got your battery negative? This is a handy guide to work out wiring cross section in relation to lengths and ampage, I seem to remember an auto electrician telling me that a 2% loss was a reasonable figure to work with. http://www.solar-wind.co.uk/cable-sizing-DC-cables.html
need4speed
Thanks for that. Looking at the auto electrics places it looks like I will be using 25mm cables.
need4speed
Decided to go for 35mm flexible cables and a couple of bus bars from mobilecentre. That way I have some capacity for adding a few things in the future without cluttering up the battery terminals..
Disco-Ron
Why two cables from the alternator... to battery and starter...... most go to the starter as its on the engine already....
need4speed
Because that's what I thought I needed. And if it hadn't been for PaulMc emailing me I would still think that's what I needed seeing as none of the wiring gurus on here have replied.. So the way I understand it right now I need a battery-fusebox, battery-starter, and starter-alternator.

need4speed
How are these cables normally routed from the factory?
Mo Murphy
Battery to starter goes out the front lower of the battery box. Alternator to starter, use std v8 routing. Battery to fuse box goes out the back of the battery box, along the tub/ seat box joint clipped to the seat belt anchor plates and then into the underseat box. need4speed
Got the battery to fusebox sorted. Regarding the others im unsure what the standard v8 routing is. I guess I will just have to route it as neatly as I can. Maybe get a few of those LR cable clips fitted somewhere.
