Paul64
Hi, I noticed in a heavy downpour that a small amount of water appears under the rear bench seat. At first I thought it may be coming through the body seal as looks a bit cracked. However, this must be quite a wide seal, so unlikely to leak. The only other possibility that I can see is the side rear window seal. Are these known to be a weak spot? If it needs changing is this a difficult job? Cheers, Paul. western
It'll be a complete window out job, remove the rubber filler strip & drill out all the rivets, then carefully remove the window assembly, to remove the centre vertical seal strip, there's a screw at each end, you'll see it in the frame edge, there's a seal MUC1008 between the window frame & body panel, the vertical seal strip MWC7614 & the felt strip MUC3096, any or all of these could let water into the rear interior, obviously the vehicle will need 2 of each, plus lots of rivets to refit the assemblies

Paul64
Checked the bottom drainage vents. All clear. Noticed near side lower seal a bit porous. Looks like the offending article. Seems like a big job Western for one single strip of seal. I have just smeared some grease along it for now. Will have to think about a full seal change. I can drill out the rivets, but have none to replace or a rivet gun yet. I take it a LR specialist would clear out my bank balance if I asked them to do it? western
Most likely a LR specialist would want a fair chunk, it's a bit of a time consuming job.
Guest dew110CSW
With older Landies, instead of fixing the leak, simply drill a hole to give the water somewhere to go...
V8 Freak
I thought it was compulsory that you had to have leaks !!! (Wasn't it in the design specs ?)
Paul64
I thought it was compulsory that you had to have leaks !!!(Wasn't it in the design specs ?) Yours looks too clean to have leaks! It is a real pain though, as the paint work is bubbling up beneath the leak inside and out. I was out pm in the LR, and took some pics of the offending area. Too Mildly miffed to load up now, so will do it mane.

Paul64
Hi Western, Bought the rivet gun and rivets. Didn't have time to do the window today, but replaced all the corroded rivets on the lower door seal which is leaking. Getting a bit of practice in before the big job! Found a local army range to do a bit of off roading on. On my way back home bought the rivet kit and got straight down to business. Drilled out old rivets, dropped sill, cleaned up mess, dried it off, lined with silicone, replaced seal, riveted, replaced sill. Done in 1.5 hours. Would have been quicker, but all sill bolts corroded on which were a bit of a pig to get off.

Paul64
Thanks Ralph, I opened an account with Photobucket. It works fine from there. I have now edited my message. What do you think of the damage caused by the leak?

I have now edited my message. what do you think of the damage caused by the leak? not unusual damage the water/moisture has got under the paint & corroded the body capping, these cappings used to be galvanised but were changed to non-gal, which lets this happen, is that at the forward end around the welded joint ? a good clean off, treat & repaint will sort it. Yes, it is at the forward end, but is also at the rear and the same two points on the other side. Repair job on the list for a dry and less cold day. Cheers, Paul.
