ajh
So, anyone had any luck with removing and re-gasketing one of the new plastic rads? This is on a 200TDI Defender, getting one of the brass ones here re-cored is the long term plan but I need a quick fix.
Eightpot
If you mean take the plastic ends off, yes I've done it and put it back succesfully . I managed to over tighten the oil cooler fitting on a platic/metal Td rad, and bust it up inside. I removed the plastic end by opening out the crimped over metal tabs, the plastic came away quite easily. After fixing the oil cooler I put plenty of rtv sealant round the joint, replaced the plastic and crimped the tabs back. No problems or leaks since, it even overheated once die to failed viscous fan and still no leak. Hope that helps.
simonr
Me too - not on a LR Rad though. I reversed one of the header tanks so the outlet pipe pointed the way I wanted by bending the metal away and folding it back after. No additional sealant and it held water fine. ajh
Similar experience, though I did use some sealant as the tank was a bit deformed outwards and I wanted to make sure it was a good seal... no issues since... yay.
