bnamunds
I've worked on minor dent repair for steel body panels but have never done any body work on aluminum body panels. I'm prepping my early 90s LR Defender 90 for new paint, and am wondering if anybody knows of a good guide for basic aluminum body work and paint preparation? The questions I have are things like: what type of body filler is best used for the aluminum panels? What grit sandpaper do you use when sanding down aluminum? What type of etch primer is required before painting, etc? Thanks LRO!

Mo Murphy
Removing dents in Alli is the same as steel. Lift it out, file it, lift it out, file it. Just be more careful, it's softer and work hardens if you overdo it. Don't sand it, you'll blow the panel really easily, just use an 80 grit disc in an orbital/DA to finish your repair off. Usual filler is fine but it's better to do it properly and lift the dent out ? I just use etch primer on bare Alli. HTH Mo
