mickeyw
So this is what the German's are up to next - filling gap in their portfolio. Could the 'new Defender' take a similar direction? It would certainly fit in with JLR's premium brand identity? http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/mercedes/90977/new-mercedes-x-class-arrives-and-the-premium-pick-up-is-born
Davo
JLR drops the Defender on supposed EU/safety/emission/harmful-to-kittens/whatever grounds, but Mercedes builds a truck with a big snub nose. Weird.
Cynic-al
The new defender range is supposed to include a pickup with a similar floor plan to the d5 meaning it will be the only one on the market to include front and rear ifs. as land rover aren't that interested in low margin fleet utility vehicles I expect it will be aimed and the premium end. The mercedes is expected to run the nissan all coil spring chassis (which i really didnt like when i drove it) with their own engines and a body and intetior inline with their suv range so i dont think that will be a workhorse either. They did a squarer looking version of the concept which looked much nicer and more realistic than that but I guess that's just personal taste.
