  1. Hi the only concern I would have is the loss of strength at the bend due to the annealing (heating), cold bend is no good as the bottom side will stretch and prob crack. Check with a decent heat treat shop first before before annealing the arms. Regards. Ian Ashcroft
  2. Hi the 2CV runs a wasted spark ignition, ie each cyl sparks each stroke, there should be two coils with two sets of points. Hope this helps. . Regards. Ian Ashcroft
  3. Hi have you looked at this speedo correction kit? http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/speedo-correction-kit-c102.html. Regards Ian Ashcroft
  4. Hi just to clarify, there is a center differential in the BW, just like a 230' but it is coupled to a VC unit to limit its differentiation, two most common problems are, spline wear (strip) on the output shaft (center spline) and the outer spline in the VC unit itself. These usually strip after the VC unit goes solid and result in total loss of drive, chain stretch although disconcerting when power applied ( jumps the teeth like a shot gun going off ) does not generally fail and loose drive. Ian Ashcroft
  5. Just for info, the BW box is a viscous controlled center diff, ie the drive is split same as a 230 but the 230diff lock is replaced with the viscous coupling to control the differential action. Yes the BW can be used in rear wheel drive only but kit will fry the visc coupling ending up breaking a C V or worse when you replace the front prop. For reliability use the 230 every time, for trials with 4 WD a BW is fun but will fry the coupling if used agressively. Hope this helps. Ian Ashcroft
  6. Hi usually a combination of wear and mis use, if D is engaged from neutral with the engine in fast idle and there is some ' slop' in the drive line then the sprags are engaged suddenly and instead of wedging they will go over center 'flip'. As we found out they can be rebuilt with slightly different profile sprags but are still subject to going over center. It may be useful to know that when 1 is engaged a clutch plus the sprag clutch engage hence the ability to start in 1 when the sprag is inverted(drive is provided by the clutch only) . Hope this helps. Ian Ashcroft
  7. Hi Phil. The roller/cam outer is the older version found in the TF box and which CANNOT flip, ZF use a ,sprag, in place of the roller with smooth plain roller brg shells inner/outer, it's these sprags which are the Achilles heel on the ZF as they can and do flip. To answer the question no they cannot be checked in site . Regards. Ian ashcroft
  8. Err no , it was a mathematical paper, thanks. Ian Ashcroft
  9. Hi Robert. Ours fits in with the T2 operation and bias range. The reason we went for the 6 pocket design was to have max gear pockets hence high bias as opposed to the Truetrac with only 3 pockets. I will try to find an interesting mathematical analysis which was carried out to see if there was any difference in the gear rotation direction/vs friction bias. There wasn't!. Regards Ian Ashcroft
  10. Hi Brian. Thera are three types of Torsen LSD, a quick Google for Torsen T1, T2, T3, will show the types. LR tried the T1 which I also evaluated and which has a higher bias ratio than the others but was prone to self destruct if used aggressively. The T2 was not tried ,as far as I am aware, but is similar in design to the Truetrac, Quaife, Ashcroft, ie cross helical gears. Regards. Ian Ashcroft
  11. Hi you understand the principle the principle correctly, think of the diff center as a very inefficient gear set, it is not quite zero if one wheel is free as there are dished springs or belville washers between the gear sets to provide some pre load, obviously more spring tension more pre load, having said that this pre load quickly becomes insignificant compared with the torque generated by a wheel or an active TC system. Regards. Ian. Ashcroft
  12. Hi what is the state of the fuel cell development...? Seem like all major players are looking at energy storage systems, ? Ian Ashcroft
  13. Hi did you check with Dave at Ashcroft trans, last time I looked we had a couple of VM to 77 bell housings, could be in the scrap by now but maybe worth checking. Ian ashcroft
  14. An alternative cable, eg 300tdi is longer, but may need fittings to connect to throttle linkage. Ian ashcroft
  15. Like an Atlas or Stak see Pirate for more details not a cheap fix. Just shaking the grey matter loose. Regards Ian Ashcroft
