Helicoil cast steel turbo housing

I've a turbo from a defender TDI 200. One of the threaded holes in the cast part of the turbo, has had the threads striped. It's the bit the exhaust impeller sits in.

Why can't I repair this with a v-coil insert?

Plan B is to drill out the remaining threads, mig in a chunk of steel, drill and retap. But I worry that will be less effective.

Which is best?

Got in from the annual holidays this evening, and managed to get this done (had to have something to show for the week). It was a real doddle, whether it was a very soft casing, or I've never used quality taps before, or I've just magically got good all of a sudden, but it was a delight to do.

Drill out, tap, screw in the coil and tap off the tang, all done in a few minutes. Thanks for the advice.
