zardos
There is a bit of slack in my 4 bolt steering box. You turn the input shaft a bit and the output shaft does not move. Can this slack be adjusted out and how do you do it? Thanks
Les Henson
There's a nut on the top of the steering box on a threaded stud. Raise the front wheels off the ground, slacken the nut and turn the inner stud - checking the play in the steering as you go. Once the play has been taken up and the steering moves smoothly from lock to lock - tighten the locknut - making sure the stud doesn't move as you do so.. Les. Mo Murphy
I've never found this to work very well TBH since by the time you've adjusted the play out, you get a tight spot elsewhere in the rotation. By the time you've backed off the tight spot on the adjuster you're back to square 1 with the play. HTH Mo
