That's very kind of you Ed.
We're (the family) going to drive to France in April - so our attention is absorbed trying to put that in place.
When that has been a raging success
I will mention the Dunsfold plan ....
-
I didn't know about the glue lined stuff ... I still have a giant box of normal stuff to get through yet too
-
I just googled 'faro arm' and watched a sales video on YouTube - amazing !
Can't imagine they are cheap.
-
I'm a bit of being ready to fit them - so can hold on until they either come to hand for you or I am able to take some measurements on the 80" ?
I'm going to put a 200tdi in and may need some chunky bump stops to deal with the front crank pulley.
-
That would be marvellous Jon
. Are they the rears then ?
It would either be a forum relay or I could pay postage ?

Hi Soren
I had some tubes tapped out some time ago to thread onto the S1 top mounts and take the later series shocks - hopefully I can find where I put them !
The original shocks were different front to back though. I checked against a couple of other 80's and the measurements came out to be :
Front:
Compressed 270
Extended 410
Rear:
Compressed 300
Extended 480
All the (expensive) replacement sets though were the same size front to back.
Good to know that you are happily running the rears though

not meaning to sound daft. but its not in low range is it??
He covers that here :
I'm running 267/75 16 BFG at's so a standard size tyre so it's not that and it's not in low box as that all works fine and it does 25mph in 5th gear in low.

That is helpful thanks - I'm looking at fitting later series shocks to my 80" to keep the costs down a little.
-
Anyone know the compressed and extended lengths for the standard series shock please ?
-
If it's not clarified this evening - I can take a picture for you sometime tomorrow ?

That was some help - I missed that ! Thank you

What engine is it ?
-
It's an idea !!
I'll explore its popularity with the women in the house and report back.

That's very kind too ! Thank you
I've been looking at this one on eBay ;

Quite local to us and cheap to boot.

I think that 1000 ton one broke doing my last A Frame ball joint .
-
I've got a 15 Te one Stephen & at times it feels like its working for a living, I wouldn't buy one with a lower capacity.
If you don't want to purchase one your welcome to use mine, only over in Blackburn.
That's a kind offer thank you !
I have a bit of space available and was thinking, that whilst i don't expect to use it that often, I do want to work through the 90 and replace all the bushes for new standard ones. Plus the a frame ball joint....

What's the minimum tonnage you'd consider useful for a LR ?
The price jumps quite a bit from 6T to 12T and onto 20T.
Is a gauge of great benefit ? Or just press it until it's in ?
Apologies for the ignorance !

On the series 1 front - once my 80 is done I plan to take a summer trip into the Alps with it. A bucket list item for me.

Wow thanks everyone - tons of good info here !
Is it definitely a hi vis per occupant ? Everything I've read seems to be saying carry 'one' ?
I've bought LRM to see what info is in their article.
I've also spent a bit of time fiddling with the Michelin route planner. What makes the route planning difficult though is two things :
* I think when it estimates journey time it uses the maximum speed limit. So when using Auto Routes it's thinking I'll be doing 80 ....... So I can't get a clear comparison to how much longer the smaller roads would take.
*when picking where to deviate from the auto routes into the RN's I don't know which are the most scenic areas to do so on.
If I was on my own I'd be less fussed about planning it so accurately - but I'll have my 3 year old girl in the back so I need to factor breaks and length of journey in for her.
It's all very helpful - thank you. I'm less daunted and more excited now.
-
It's a 10 hour round trip for me
-
Thank you
-
That is helpful - thanks.
We're driving into the Alps. First go for us - though I've wanted to do it for ages.

Coupd anyone tell me the gasket/seal part numbers that go behind the td5 windscreen brackets.
The bolt part numbers would be useful too please.
Replacing Bellhousing cross-member
in Series Forum
Posted
Excuse my ignorance ..... I have a replacement bell housing cross-member to replace the rotten one ok my series.
Do I ensure it goes back in the right place just by scribing lines to locate it ? ...
When I cut the old one out and grind it back flush I presume some lines across the top of the chassis rails will adequately locate it front to rear ? And lines scribed on the inside of the chassis will locate it's height ok ?
