  1. Help! The Devil used to start first turn of the key, within a second. Since we changed the pump, it now takes ages to start, turning over for 15-30 seconds before starting. And for the first 20-30 seconds the engine runs like it's starved of fuel, wont rev up etc In this weather, it's just putting strain on the battery. Once started for 30 seconds, you can turn off and restart again immediately. I'm thinking that maybe air is getting into the fuel system or that fuel is draining back somehow and the engine is needing to prime each time it's been left for a while (but haven't checked this yet). Any ideas? Juz
  2. Am I missing something? Why should someone PAY to be a member of a VOLUNTEER group? Juz
  3. In my case it was pretty obvious, they were caked (and I mean caked) in sooty carbon crud. £80 and 24hrs at a specialist injector place had them looking shiny and new. Fixed the problem instantly. Juz
  4. Yes, as per my posts on your other thread, the injectors needed refurbing. Juz
  5. I did all of those things too, and the lift pump and the fuel pump. It only takes 10 mins, whip out all 4 injectors and have a look. Juz
  6. My 200tdi had no power and wouldn't go over 55mph - turned out the injectors needed refurbing. I also tweaked the fuel pump at the same time. Loads of power, a joy to drive now. Juz
  7. Mine runs at 1 bar - is it a big deal, should I be worried? Juz
  8. Thanks Spin, I'll have a look. Cheers Juz
  9. Hi All, I need to get a compression tester on my 200tdi. Does anyone near High Wycombe have one I could borrow for a few days? Or does anyone have one they no longer need and would be interested in selling? If I go out and buy new, what range gauge/tester would I need? Juz
  10. UPDATE: So we have now replaced every hose on the air side (bloody expensive they all were too!) - so think the air supply is ok. The turbo seems to be fine too. Onto the fuel side - new tank, new filter, new lift pump. Problem remains, I guess my next thing to check is compression............... Juz
  11. Don't have one. I think these were an optional extra. Juz
  12. Removed the pipe and cranked the engine on the key, the idea being to check the lift pump. Juz
  13. Fuel filter changed end May. Did a drain recently and got some water out but no dirt. Juz
  14. Lift pump 'appears' to be fine, when we removed the pipe from the fuel filter, it sprayed diesel EVERYWHERE, so we assumed the lift pump was ok. There was a fair bit of oil in the air filter (before it was changed), probably about an egg cup full. But the air filter was changed on Thursday night (as was the cyclone breather), driven about 30 miles and checked - no oil yet in the air filter but still no power. Juz
  15. Hi All, I've got an old roll bar/roll hoop for a Defender 90 that I want to get sand blasted and then either powder coated or painted. Does anyone know anyone near High Wycombe that can do this? How much do you think it would cost? Juz
  16. Hi All, Ive got a 200tdi that was fine on Monday. On Friday started her up and heard an odd noise, almost like the turbo spinning up, but only for 0.5 - 1.0seconds, This is accompanied by a big puff of black smoke from the exhaust. I don't know if it's relevant, but she's been way down on power lately too. Any ideas? Juz
  17. A similar thing happened on mine - intermittent noise at various times of drive and braking - turned out to be a knackered UJ on the rear prop. Juz
  18. I've just had black chequer arrive with similar problems. I called them to ask if they had them in stock for a defender and also asked if the holes were countersunk. They had no idea and said they’d call me back ………………… nothing. So I called them and was told that they do have them in stock and that the holes were countersunk So, I placed the order, 4 days later I called them to ask where they were only to be told that they were still with the coaters, so they didn't have them in stock then!. They’ve now been delivered and the holes are not countersunk, just deburred. Oh yeah, and no hole for the aerial. I called them today, guess what, they were kind enough to tell me that I could drill the aerial hole myself and if the countersinking they have done (!!!) is not enough I can re countersink them myself – so how am I supposed to do that exactly without screwing the coating! I wont use them again. Juz
  19. Not local, but they post to you, I've always had good service from Namrick http://www.namrick.co.uk/ Juz
  20. You have some stunning green lanes on your doorstep - I'd seriously look at those too! If you need another truck along, I'm always happy to head over. Juz
  21. Hi All, Defender 200tdi After fitting my snorkel, I found that the system was not air tight as the hoses in the engine bay were rotten, so I've changed those. I've now found that the air filter housing has a dump valve (looks like a bird beak) that is letting in air. What have you guys done? A) Removed the dump valve and sealed the hole completely B) stuck a new dump valve on and found it seals pretty well C) nothing I do want to do some deep wading so I need to do something, it would help knowing what the consensus on here is.
