  1. I have an LT77(or used to, its a LT77 housing anyway), thats what I ordered for the matting. Should I not have that hump with a LT77? Will call him tomorrow...
  2. I've been using this "nearest thing to Dum Dum": https://www.frost.co.uk/eastwood-flexible-strip-caulk-dum-dum-replacement.html
  3. Thanks for the tip, it does, but not of the pieces I'm after, namely this plastic holder that slots on from the top and matching bolt (bottom of pic). Are there any LR parts places that stock military type parts?
  4. Thanks again for the suggestions, my kindly 70+ panel beater next door took great delight in whipping up the attached which work really well.. easy to put on/off the waffle holding brackets outside....
  5. Hi all, I'm installing part of the Wright OffRoad matting system (seat box piece) again in the front of my formerly 2.5n/a 1991 exMOD. The previous version was ripped apart by the metal hump in front of the middle seat as pictured. Is it really needed? (What does it do?) And can be easily be unbolted/removed without consequence? Thanks in advance!
  6. Gwyn Lewis sorted me out in the end - very good customer service. I should be happily greased up next week There is a local stockist about 50km away, but my Portuguese wasn't good enough, not worth a 100km round trip plus toll fee's to see if they have it, plus many businesses are closed for holidays at the moment etc
  7. Thanks all! Links here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-x-MORRIS-K48-MOLY-GREASE-400g-CV-joints-Propshaft-Wheel-Bearings-Land-Rover/183389126728?hash=item2ab2d80048:g:sVQAAMXQVERS81Gy and here... https://www.morrislubricants.co.uk/k48-moly-grease-no-2.html Sadly nobody will ship to Portugal - shipping grease is fine, but often companies don't want the how much does it weigh/what do we charge to each country question...
  8. Hi all, I'd like to buy some grease in bulk suitable for propshafts, spare wheel carrier greasing etc on my Defender that has a TD5 front axle and a 300TDI rear axle. Would this Comma High Performance Lithium Bearing grease (NLGI: 2) be the best that I can use? https://www.commaoil.com/passenger-vehicles/products/view/211 Is it also (as the names suggests) the best option for wheel bearings? Thanks in advance!
  9. Thanks mate, looking to add a removable large capacity deep cycle battery pack in the back, add it in for longer trips, remove it when in Europe was my thinking... I also wanted the 'flat starter' option of the Smartpass etc
  10. Having reviewed all of my wiring its obvious that over time they fail, the rubber degrades, corrugations and the weight of the cables push them downwards it seems, at least on my landy. No comment on the holes being the right size or mechanics fitting them well! 😉 Anyway, for me its a worth whilst investment, £100 and now none of my wires will burn my Landy to the ground in the middle of the Sahara, others milage will vary widely.... Example of what I found below...
  11. Thanks for the help, I understand what I need having lived in my Landy for many years, that wasn't really what I was asking for help with though. What I was asking was do we have any "qualified auto sparkies that have worked on expedition vehicles/ know about split charge systems etc that can sense check my wiring plans" The plan overview is fairly standard - wire the ctec system with two batteries (red top/yellow top), a solar panel, battery cut off switch and a constant/ignition split fuse box that will run a fridge, battery charges, LED lights, air compressor and so forth. The Ctec system is actually pretty good value, it includes a solar regulator for example, is 'field tested' on expeditions and maximises your battery capacity and minimises charge time (allegedly) so in my circumstances its money well spent. http://www.simplysplitcharge.co.uk/store/index.php?route=product/category&path=257 This video has some opinions around this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6poRPUMKTI
  12. I see it that they won't unknowingly fail - rubber will 'pop out' and exposes the wires due to poor install, ageing, vibrations etc
  13. Ctek D250SA and Smartpass 120 (DC-DC chargers etc) https://www.ctek.com/products/vehicle/d250sa https://www.ctek.com/products/vehicle/smartpass-120 Quick intro...
  14. Wondering if we have any resident qualified auto sparkies that have worked on expedition vehicles/ know about split charge systems etc that can sense check my wiring plans? I have dual Optima's fitted with a National Luna system (link) and am stripping that out and moving over to a Ctek system with all new fuse panels, battery cut off switch and so forth. Thanks in advance if so...
  15. Could somebody kindly talk me through the best way to paint my 3 front seat bases please? I'm confident enough to strip them down and rebuild them with new foam bases and covers etc, however unsure if they metal should be shot blasted(?) and what paints to use on them afterwards? After a satin/matt black finish (where they don't look like an idiot just slapped some paint around as most of my paint work does...)
  16. Thanks, I have some Duralac Green - or can just use glue/silicone or something, will assess when it arrives... I found something smilier to that above, but only £25 which is a small price to avoid a fire of my beloved in the desert 😉 Will update with pictures when in place
  17. These look quite good as well... http://www.seaviewglobal.com/de/products/657
  18. Thanks for all of the suggestions above. Dixon's seems like the best option from those listed, at least your dealing with the manufacturer etc. I then need to get it fitted.... my usual Landy people in Portugal and the UK shy away from this job (they are more mechanical and see this as messy, difficult, fuel tank normally has a few issues after you put it back in etc etc). So can anybody recommend a quality workshop that could do this with me? (I'm heading back to the UK for work for a week anyway, so no great drama to drive up etc)
  19. PS: Ronny Dahl does some good stuff - its Aussie and Toyota based, but plenty of good general advice on vehicle electrics, bush mechanics etc etc https://www.youtube.com/user/RonBacardi666/featured
  20. Thanks, cable glands look good for the bigger wires I'm worried about, thanks again... For others, here are some to buy in the UK and the video link below shows some installed... https://uk.rs-online.com/web/c/cables-wires/cable-glands-strain-relief-grommets/cable-glands/
  21. Portasol sounds like a good tool to have on a trip in Africa, very keen... Read that tips don't last long and the kit available only comes with three. What sized tips are most useful for Defender electrics (including the odd large cable like a winch cable etc) please?
  22. What gas does it take and how is it feed in (top it up or gas canister etc?) please? I can order the kit, but need to make sure I can order or buy locally the gas 😉
  23. Adding to the mix, I quite like this as its soft and can just be hung off of a couple of hooks for quick access. Downsides are there is nowhere to put smaller items like a 8mm, 10mm, 13mm, 17mm ratchet bits etc:
  24. I can get to both sides of most of them at the moment.... If its not too much trouble it would be great if you kindly link to items mentioned such as fibreglass patchs, resin, body filler and PU adhesive as I'm sure there are many different kinds and I have no idea about any of them (and my Portuguese is not great, plus many items for sale here are low quality/cheap so I like to order from the UK or find the same products locally. I have an account with frost.co.uk so any links there I'd appreciate even more 😉 https://www.frost.co.uk/autobody-blasting/automotive-fibre-glass-tools.html
  25. Hi, I find the standard rubber grommets on offer in the UK a bit rubbish, they degrade and fall through the holes, offer minimal protection and so forth. Wondering if there are more encompassing, better protected products or ways to pass wires through metal? I have quite a lot to fix up so keento do it once well 😉
