  1. Chuck Norris would just stare at it and it would flatten itself through fear
  2. I know it is not an OE spec profile but Kent Cams mild road profile shows cam lift of 6.83mm and valve lift of 10.89mm
  3. Do you know off the top of your head is he stocks the petrol version as well? I will email him but if you know I'd be curious
  4. To be fair, the same old junkers were being exported to the four corners of the globe where 8.13:1 was about right for the dubious quality fuels they were expected to run on. I'd agree, the 70's weren't exactly filled with wonderous achievements at BL. Square steering wheel anyone?
  5. Haven't you said goodbye to fuel economy with the change of tyres? If the tyres are at a larger diameter and have lost you acceleration and torque, to have to change gearing to regain acceleration means you are going to have to spin the engine faster now to maintain the same cruising speed pre tyre change surely? Not to mention the possible increase in rolling resistance from the larger diameter tyres. Just a thought
  6. You'll find that that the carburettor fuel pump will have insufficient flow to feed an injection pump inline. Circuit race cars would use something like a Facet red top pump to lift from the tank and feed a separate fuel swirl pot of about a litre from which the injection pump is fed. The return from the swirl pot to the main tank is restricted slightly so that in effect the swirl pot is always full. The return from the injectors and fuel rail feeds back to the swirl pot so almost irrespective of angle and main tank level there is always enough fuel. In your case you wouldn't need to try and fit an injection pump to the main tank. The Facet red top is quite a pricey pump though but flows well. I agree with those above: I think yours probably would benefit from some lobes on the cams (like mine!) Fitting EFi will compound your problems. Unless the foundations are strong and working well you stand a good chance of getting lost in other issues. Good luck
  7. That sounds like pretty good advice to me. When I put the R380 in my 110 I did at least have the original engine position to work to
  8. I picked up both the 110, soon to be longer, and the Range Rover donor, at the weekend so it is project on! My priority is the at the back of the 110 but I want to be rid of the Range Rover as the place is looking like Steptoe's yard ATM so I will be getting the engine and box out as soon as possible. Once all the bits are out I'll post some pics up
  9. 1984 110 V8 CSW on gas,

    1953 80" series 1 on axle stands

soon to be joined by 110 project camper

  10. I'm self taught with TIG over probably ten years and whilst steel is relatively easy to pick up, especially if you are a competent steel gas welder, ali is difficult. I'd agree with mscowley that to get a go with someones set that is correctly set up would be the way forward. I have a large old BOC Argonarc 300 set with millions of amps available but without the foot pedal my set is very difficult on thin 2mm sheet work, even with soft start. We mostly use it on steel so it is not too much of an issue. One day I will see one for sale s/h and will grab it with both hands!
  11. If anyone else wanted engine/gearbox mounts I'll take some templates of whatever I make for myself.
  12. I'm going to be tackling this same project myself shortly. I have a RRC as a donor vehicle. I've pretty much decided to ditch the ideal of a manual box as I have all the parts n the RRC I'm not sure whether to keep the EFi or go with a pair of SU carbs. It will be getting the LPG treatment whichever though as I have a BLOS propane carb on my 110 V8 and it is a very good fitment. The BLOS carb will run with carbs or EFi so the carbs are only required for running on petrol. Chances are the EF1 will stay and I'll use a programmable ignition for the LPG and leave the standard EFi alone as backup. At least with the EFi throttle body the airflow won't be always having to pull the pistons up in the carbs. I'd be happy to compare notes as I'm due to collect the RRC and another 110 from Curley of this parish this weekend. The 110 has an LT77 and 200 TDi in it so the thread title struck a chord with me!
  13. Buying a 130 is the easier but much much more expensive option, all for an extra 20" of box section! I need to see what differentiates a passenger from commercial vehicle in their eyes, that looks like £450 I don't need to get hooked into Having had a good read through many SVA posts I have completely resigned myself to an SVA test and a Q plate, that way I can forget the 8+points and build it how I want. I will go and have a word at my local office, forewarned is forearmed after all. Thanks to all for your contributions, I'll wear my Q with pride now
  14. I wish to extend a 110 chassis to 130-ish, change the engine from diesel to petrol V8 and probably go from LT95? to R380 manual gearbox. Now according to the DVLA regs I need a score of 8 points or more to avoid the Q plate Extending the wheelbase must rank as radically altering so according to their points score I lose 5 points for this. If I change the engine from diesel to petrol only 1 point lost. Now, I can scrape my 8 points keeping steering, suspension, transmission and axles as they are but are they going to hit me 2 points for any alteration to the gearbox, even if it is essentially the same type of box? Is it permissible to alter the chassis, send the log book off, let the dust settle then do the other changes or is it a once and for all rule that says you've used up your points in one go and you can't gain anymore by waiting? Or should I just accept the Q plate with dignity, jump through all the SVA hoops and quit whingeing?
  15. Err, sorry, I didn't mean the Ambulance was hideous, I meant the job of converting didn't look so hideous. Don't want to blot my copybook here before I have got my L plates off! Sorry. Thanks for explaining the body construction
  16. I had another look, you are quite right, it doesn't look so hideous. What are the roof/sides made of? Is it aluminium over ply or just aluminium?
  17. Nice ambulance conversion MOG. My problem is the kids need forward facing seats so I'd have to hack away quite a bit of useful structure to accommodate them, Leaving them home alone wouldn't be an option
  18. The trouble with the ambulance is although much work appears to be done it straightaway forces some compromises. I am now most likely to go down an entirely DIY route, accepting all possible pitfalls and learning curves. I'm only looking at short trips relatively close to home. First I've got an 80" series 1 which I need to decide what to do with. Difficult: camper or series
  19. Following this with interest. Shame that a stripped out body in GRP like the Azalai body isn't available for DIY'ers.. Witham SV have a Defender 130 ambulance for £9,500 but it doesn't push any buttons for me
