  1. you'll soon realise you need it when you hit a pothole at speed...
  2. My td5 safari snorkel is a bit noisy at high revs, sounds nice imo
  3. Another thing we try also, not the safest way, but on some engines where you're sure that the glow plugs won't fall into the cylinder, is to run the engine with the bonnet open, this can loosen the glow plug but be warned they can fly out pretty fast!
  4. You may be able to hit it out from the bottom. We have specialists that come round to our garage that drill them out starting off with a small bit and gradually getting larger, requires a steady hand with the drill and a lot of patience. Did you remove them with engine cold? Always do it with the engine stinking hot
  5. ECR have custom made their DD fascia, as opposed to altering a standard one apparently. wish i could get my mitts on one though!!
  6. Have a look on east coast rovers custom build cars, theyve made their own DD fascia and it looks fantastic
  7. you can break any chain very easily without making any noise, using a certain "liquid" wont give away any more details than that, dont want to give the thieving gits a heads up, its not so easy to get hold of though.
  8. Thankyou! I compared my front prop to my rear, my rear has smaller uj's. and interestingly my mates 55 plate 110 has the same looking front prop. Maybe gigglepin thinks the only uj available is the early ones that also fit discos
  9. Well i wont mention names but this guy is a lot better than a former member of staff at gigglepin. I have had mixed results from looking on parts websites. I need some sort of EPC really
  10. Hello! Visited gigglepin on the weekend to pick up two front prop uj's for my defender, i got given part no. TWC100010 (IIRC) now on comparison to my front prop uj's the new ones are significantly smaller in size and so wont fit. So i sent them back along with an old uj for comparison and he says that hes never seen a uj that big before and he doesn't know what should fit. The prop looks original and doesnt look like a non-gen part, it has gkn stamped on the uj's. I have my chassis no here if anyone is able to help with this issue i would be very appreciative SALLDVB572A645957 Thanks Ash
  11. The factory fit general, i think its TR This pattern
  12. i had general grabbers in that size on my defender, 8 years and 70,000 miles later and they still have about 8mm left! A bit hairy in the wet now though, and ****e in the gloopy stuff, broke my snorkel due to lack of grip (sliding sideways) so im now running BFG MUD KM2's and they are phenominally better all round, all except for noise..
  13. Mercedes A and B-class autos use a CVT gearbox utilising a steel belt. No slippage is allowed to occur as this will cause quick failure. It uses a fluid torque converter to transmit power, internal to this is a locking clutch that is allowed to slip to take up sudden increases in torque that could damage the Steel belt. There is also a planetary gearset to allow for reverse selection, this also allows for slip. The whole system works very well, is extremely smooth and can be programmable to offer infinite preset gear ratios. It has also proved itself to be very reliable too. I havnt any information on whether it can take the high torque conditions in a land rover though, and also due to its design, it prefers the transverse engine layout of a FWD car. Just in case this may be of use...
  14. Seems quite an extreme measure to fix a water leak...
  15. My Defender's high level stop lamp hasnt worked for 3 years, it passes everytime, no advisories on it. I also send vehicles to Just Mot's everyday with 3rd brake lights not working, it is never brought up as either a fail or an advisory.
  16. thanks k88 mud and andy, well his truck is a hell of a lot less vibey than mine so should be ok. I know 5-cylinder engines get a bit of a vibe on at mid to high revs but mine is lot more noticeable than his, do u reckon that is a dual mass fault? or possibly that the injectors need zeroing in? it does it in all gears but most pronounced in 3rd and 4th and i can get it on idle, shakes the gear lever to bits and i get a pronounced metallic rattle at about 3-4krpm ( guess as no rev counter) Cheers fellas! Ash
  17. good evening chaps! One of my friends is due to have his clutch changed on his 55 plate 110 td5 and he has been warned that it may need a dual mass flywheel replaced, which defenders have dual mass flywheels and can a standard flywheel be retrofitted? Cheers Ash
  18. mine too, for the first minute or so, gets louder as you select first, an annoying noise but its in the most inaccessible area, gonna change it when myy truck eventually needs a clutch
  19. Am i right in saying that the pivot on the allisport rear wheel carrier interferes with the square type fog lamps fitted to pre td5 defenders?
  20. and what looks like a front winch bumper welded to the rear crossmember??
  21. the inside of the side panels are blue, the b-pillars are red, the doors frames appear to be the welded type and not the one-piece jobbies (although a job to see in the picture) I cant imagine anyone doing that amount of "customisation" to a tdci defender, and if they had im sure the write up would be more fulfilled. If it was an old 90 then that would explain the short write up Looks suspect to me
  22. yeah i did have trouble trying to rest the assembly on the floor without out it tipping over and consequently messing my floor with cv grease!
