  1. any ideas of why my window wont go up, it will pull up easily, motor turns ok and the teeth are visble on the regulator. Havnt taken the regulator out yet to look further just wondered if anyone knew of why it has failed. the motor got loaded full of grease a few months back when it started to squeak, could this be the cause?
  2. At speeds above 40mph i get a strong, almost violent steering wheel shake when hitting any slight bump in the road. Its got so bad that i cant stay at the speed limit on motorways. Its a 300tdi disco 97'. it had a procomp steering damper fitted approx 6000 miles ago along with all new ball joints and rear track bar. I have checked the sttering damper bushes and they are ok and there is no oil leaking from the damper. Its also recently had both front wheel bearings replaced so there is no play there. i cant feel any play in the entire steering system. should i be adjusting the swivel pins next? if so is there an easy method of doing it. i have the correct newton meter to check the force required to move the swivel housing. Thanks
  3. belt tensioner? remove the poly belt and wiggle the water pump and belt tensioner pulleys, should be easily located, that or with the belts on and engine running spray lube the bearings of the pulleys to eliminate the noise's source
  4. i know this sounds silly but have you checked your tyre pressures?
  5. i had this problem the other day, haynes manual says refer to land rover dealer for removal of brass bush on inner edge of stub axle, not quite sure of a way of removing, gave up in the end and reused the original stub axle
  6. Speaking to my Mac distributor the other day, and hes managed to get hold of an alternative to the land rover 52mm hub tool. One of my complaints with the land rover hub tool is that it has no provision for using any form of ratchet or bar, only the use of a tommy bar ( or in some cases a couple of screwdrivers) So after a long time searching, i've finally found one with a 3/4inch drive! now most people's tool cases wont include a 3/4" drive ratchet, so if you want it you will need to buy a drive adaptor. The Tool is Made by Melco in Sheffield and its part no. is TBS 89 I got mine for £30, which yes is expensive for a hub tool but ive wanted the solution for so long i couldnt resist Below is the website for the tool company. But as yet i havnt found a website that you can order them through. Hope this little bit of info helps anyone who moans about the land rover hub tool Melco Tools
  7. just in case anybody hasnt already said, Halfrauds sell a lovely hardback copy of all fault codes, right where the haynes manuals are located
  8. alright chaps could anyone enlighten me as to which td5 defenders have the anti-stall feature much appreciated ash
  9. disco's can tow 3.5ton braked. discover brakes are very good, i would reccommend them for your 109, as it is lighter than a disco
  10. Our work pressure bleeder runs at 2 bar (29psi) , this is what merc recommend and its been fine on all other makes that i've performed a brake bleed on, always works a treat. interestingly (a bit OT) merc e and sl-classes use fly by wire brakes, very good! until they go wrong, we have to bleed brakes using a computer, takes about an hour and it can detect any air in the system by itself!
  11. the 4 eye headlamps required trimming the wings, as the headlamp has a square profile into the wing, unlike 200/300tdi's which are more curved, and some modification the the panel behind the lamps is required, all do able, and not really too hard, just whether or not u want to start cutting up your bodywork. i think paddocks want nearly £200 a lamp for a 4eye disco 2
  12. yer its pretty sloppy up there now, i got stuck, my own fault though. jim with his gwyn lewis'd 90 didnt. good fun but i reckon it may get shut soon, the main track is still fine, the bit to the side is turning into proper mess, good for me but im sure some ramblers gonna have a moan someday
  13. teabag they look so much smarter dont they! Noticed your from north kent, the pictures of mine are at a greenlane between cobham and snodland if u dont already know it, good lane
  14. and what i got upto shortly after... yes that is only 3 wheels touching terra firma
  15. from inspection they are ex land rover parts. as the lenses have the land rover stamped, just slightly melted out. and they come in marelli boxes. comparison between genuine and paddocks £25 lamps shows no difference in quality, just purely the lr badge melted out. they dont come with bulbs but the side light holder is included. im well pleased with them, simmonites wanted 80 odd quid plus vat plus delivery, so i went with paddocks 24 pound something +vat and i bought myself a thermostat to allow me free postage, (free postage after £50 before vat of total items. well worth buying attached is a pic of my disco with the new lights
  16. http://www.modusengineservices.co.uk/ This bloke called Jay, gets all our snapped glow plugs/injectors out. he is nothing short of a genius at work. he may reccommend a way of getting it out, he may say drilling it out but very carefully, although he would usually take the head off and spark erode the old glow plug out.
  17. yes and yes. straight swap. and my old headlamps were newish, but the actual pattern is so much better
  18. assuming that all people looking in this topic are people wondering whether or not to buy a set of td5 headlights to replace the completely silver reflector 300tdi lights. DO IT NOW!!!!! i replaced mine the other day for an mot issue, and the difference in beam pattern is amazing, they dont just look pretty, you get a massive improvement in visibility, main beam has improved so much its like i have spots fitted and low beam is so perfectly clipped its like its got xenons. Definately a must buy for any 300tdi owner! and they are only 25 plus the dreaded on p****cks. just thought id reccomend them thats all... tata for now (no pun intended)
  19. you what? your only changing one side of the vehicles brakes????? are you mad? Always change brakes in axle sets i.e front or rear. thats why pads come in sets of front or rear, and some companies sell discs as a pair. It is dangerous practise to replace only one side
  20. mine is a 97 p, and mine was factory fit with twin rear indicators, so yours should have 2 sets aswell. if all turn signal lamps operate correctly and at the correct speed then i would bother searching for a fault. the trailer light is there to show that another bulb is fitted to that circuit, or so i believe?
  21. it is normal to have the trailer light to come on once during each turn signal operation
  22. someone will need to check this, as there may be an even easier way of doing it, but yes a resistor can be fitted either way round. the only thing that im concerned about is that a bulb changes its resistance because of the heat it gives off. but if there is no other way of correcting it then try a relay off of a disco with just one set of rear indicators maybe.
  23. see item labelled "10W W/W 6.8R H6R8 £0.45 " on this site http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=2181
  24. calculation works out to be a 6.85 ohm resistor. so something very similar will be needed. someone else may correct me though
  25. you will need a resistor, if equivalent value to that of a bulb. the bulb is 12v 21watt. so from there you will need to work out the resistance, maplins do resistors. someone will be around to tell you more shortly
