When we had our 3 door SWMBO made up an elasticated cloth cover that hooked over the 4 hooks just down from the top.

Don't think it is. Some people fit those pins when the fit the suspension lift kit.

PM me your email address. I have one

Probably bits of salt stuck in the discs.

The transmission gets wound up if the VCU fails....some do, some don't.
I'm on my second Freelander. The last one did nearly 100k miles and didn't have a problem with the VCU. This one has done 75k and is still perfect, and I do a 48 mile cross county commmute to work.
There is a lot of "cr*p" given about the Freelander transmission system, invariably by those who know little about it. Like any car, if you have a good one, no problem, but ALL cars are not perfect!! Don't worry!!
-
No it is an issue with ALL Freelander's, which is why LR give the instruction in all the handbooks.
-
Leave it with the full 4 whheel drive system in place. It increases the stability of the car and makes it much easier to pull away, especially with a 'van on the back. I have never heard of anyone having a problem towing for long distances with the Freelander, and as has been siad the fuel saving will be minimal.
-
That sounds lke it had a turbo oil seal go and has ingested all the engine oil. If you bought it from a dealer you should have some comeback, but if a private sale.......caveat emptor!!
-
Someone on the Freelander Club forum is thinking of making a few of those type, as they are no longer available.

Dorsetfreelander,
LAND ROVER's instructions are very plain in the Owners Handbook:
If fitted in pairs new tyres MUST alway be fitted to the REAR axle ONLY. Failure to do so can result in damage to the VCU and IRD.
Of course Michelin recommend you buy 4 tyres every time.....it makes them money. No other tyre manufacturer states it.
-
GET YOUR NEW TYRES FITTED TO THE REAR AXLE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
Failure to do so can result in severe damage to the transmission system and is almost certainly the cause of the noise and vibration.
This is as instructed by Land Rover in the handbook.
You do not need to buy 4 tyres, just always make sure that new tyres, or tyres with the greatest circumference are ALWAYS fitted to the rear axle.

ok...this is an even more stupid question...remebering what I said about not knowing anything...
when you first start the engine, is the cooling fan behind the radiator supposed to start straight off, or does it come on when its hot etc...as the fan isnt going when I start the car,
cheers again
No the fan only comes on when the car is hot. It is thermostatically controlled.

Adam,
CRAG is very active in North and Mid Wales, plus if you joined 4x4 Response Wales you will find that lots of the North Wales members have an active social laning life.
Plus we will get to know you!!

No, different front bumper and beam.
-
They are supposed to stop any vibration that "might" be present, but as some cars don't have them fitted anyway, and plenty in the Freelander Club have cut theirs off, I wouldn't worry to much about it.

Occasionally CD's come up on Ebay.
-
Sorry to say this, but yes you are being paranoid. What you are getting is a normal characturistic of the Freelander transmission system. Stop worrying about it, get out there and enjoy it!!
-
Check that the relay is connecting properly.
-
Car engine will probably have a different cam and ECU.
-
You need to have 20 posts before you can sell stuff on here.
-
Yes you can do it with out removing the roof bars, but you need 2 people and it isn't easy. It has to be lifted and twisted around a bit to get it past them.
-
Look in the bottom corner of the windscreen. It can be viewed there.
Also on your Reg Docs.
