  1. It might just do it, depending on the finish you want and the present state. Why use cellulose anyway? A litre of the cheaper 2pack would be more tha enough and give a better finish in less than perfect spraying conditions. If you use an air drying activator you can do it with minimal heating of the garage(that is, unless you have a nice heated proper spray bay!)
  2. Hello Mikek Yes, this could be the problem. You could try knocking around the drums with a copper or hide hammer, and also on the face of the drum. If the wheels won't turn, did you have to knock the drums on? The shoes can sometimes drag on the unworn/ rust rim at the edge of the drum and tilt and wedge. Knocking on the drum face will sometimes "jump" them into place. Did the brakes tighten up when you fitted the wheels? If so, try loosening the wheel nuts and see what happen. Give the drums and back plates a bit of a knock while the are wheels off. Given that you have new(unseized!)wheel cylinders, and everything is put together correctly, there can't be too much wrong. Hope this is some help!
  3. Hello Have you centralised the shoes? Try putting pressure on the brake pedal, then see if they have freed up. If they have, then adjust up as usual. Another thing you could check is for a build up of rust around the inside of the drum. The nice square edges of new shoes will often drag on this, and there will also be an unworn rim around the drum.
  4. Boyle's Law P1,V1/T1 = P2,V2/T2 where P=pressure, V=volume, T=temperature (I think.Yes it was a long time ago!)
  5. The "L" reg. Disco I have just robbed had 24 spline shafts, front and rear.
  6. Thanks everyone! Feel a bit more reassured with your input.
  7. Have heard some horror stories about these seals, mainly the rear one, on 200tdi engines. I have rebuilt many engines over the last 40odd years but never one of these. Are the seals really as difficult to fit properly as a number of people say? Are the seals really of such poor quality as some suggest? Any advice from those who know these engines would be much appreciated!
  8. Hello I have a radio decode package that has worked for everything I've tried it on. If you would like to email me the radio make, type, serial no's I could give it a whirl for you. My email is Briarston@hotmail.co.uk
  9. When I tried to insure my 90 (1988) I tried various "specialist" LR insurers as well as the many offering geat deals. Mention of Land Rover to one "big name" insurer resulted in a definite NO. Another refused because its modified (after market steel 8 spokes), another wanted to know what I meant by "wheels!" had to explain they were the round things at each corner, then refused to quote. Another kept telling me to call back the next day for quote and then asking for more info. Never did get a quote from these "specialists". Finally tried Adrian Flux, spoke to a young man who knew exactly what we were talking about, and came up with an agreed value quote (limited milage, ok. for second motor). Pleasure to deal with them. (no connection otherwise!)
  10. When I tried to remove mine, 2 sheared off, one was already sheared and the 4th. unscrewed. There were no clips holding the "captives" in place. One bolt broke about an inch above the plate stopping me wangling it out. A real pain cutting it off with a bare hacksaw blade. I bought(!) four new bolts and nuts, drilled out what used to be tapped holes in the plates, and welded the nuts on. Refitted with plenty of copperslip, but a bit of a fiddle to get them lined up with the bolt holes.
  11. Hello all I am looking to fit Discovery alloys to my 1988 90. I have fitted Disco back axle so no problem there. I can see that the Disco front drive members don't stick out so far as the 90 front ones, so the CVjoint shaft must be shorter (mustn't it be?) so can this be fitted into the 90's hub? Ashcrofts site says that the drive shafts have 23 splines to the CV joint. I know that there is a slight difference in the PCD. of the 90 and Disco drive members. Has anyone done this or know if it is do-able? If is possible it might be a cheaper than 30mm spacers. Just wondering (hoping!) (Bodger) Briarston
  12. Hello all Just become a member, but have been reading anything re. 200Tdi into 90 swaps for some time, and gained some useful tips from many of you. I have a couple of questions connected to this job to which I haven't been able to find answers. Hope some of you experienced members may be able to offer advice. 1. When removing/fitting Discovery rear axle is it possible to unbolt the ball joint housing from the "A" frame rather than "thrashing it with a heavy hammer"? and will this then fit the "90" "A" frame? 2. I like the look of the Disco's alloys, obviously they will fit at the rear with Disco axle fitted, but what about the front? (I don't want to fit the Disco axle here). Can the drive shafts and hubs be fitted to the "90" axle which has the separate drive member and protruding cap? What would be the implications regarding discs/calipers? The 90 has very recently had new discs, calipers etc. will these still suit. Hope someone can offer advice on this. As I am elligible for a bus pass, I like to sort out as many problems as I can before making a serious start! (I'm also slightly allergic to lying under something heavy, while hitting it with something heavy, if I can possibly avoid so doing!) Thanks, and hoping I'm not asking the same questions as has already been dealt with. Briarston
