  1. Looking for some 60 or preferably 70mm diameter aluminum or stainless steel tube and a selection of 45 and 90 degree bends, Also some silicone hose to suit. Its to re route the air intake to the rear of the cab out of harms way so it doesn't need to be overly thick wall. Main problem is I live in the middle of nowhere so it would be best if I could find somewhere on the web or someone decent on the phone for mail order!

    Thanks in advance.

    Steve.

  2. Chris, just ditch the leccy winches, talk to Alan at 4x4winches .com and put full hydraulic front and back. Apart from losing a chain when I fitted a new one to an old sprocket, I have never had a problem in nearly 2 years. Small tank, no heat build up to worry about and they pull like a train all day long.

I'll second that, Since seeing Alan and Saleys winch's in use i was very impressed and very very tempted!!!!

  3. Some pics of team Wurzeltaff

Oooop's, How did I manage that??????????? The photo's don't give any real concept of how steep that was!!!!!

Another excellent event, Many thanks to everyone involved in organizing the event and to the rest of team Wurzeltaff for making the weekend so enjoyable.

Some brilliant sections on both days (although I missed the good ones on Saturday coz I broke a C.V.!) Sundays were awsome, Good technical driving and all went well with plenty of laughs and banter to make it all the better. Really sad its over and cant wait for the next event.

  4. Just spoke to Andy Tomlinson about cleaning my Plasma and then funnily enough stumbled across this thread.

He says "Give it a good rinse in a bucket with a small amount of washing up liquid"

Ive always used washing powder and when I asked if it may have harmed the rope Andy said "no, It might just leave the rope a bit sticky if not washed out properly"

  5. Yet another well set out event. Just a few teathing trouble's with Pikeys truck but that was expected seeing as it was the first time it had been out and the winch's etc were only finnished in the weeks before. 2 broken winch ropes on about our 4th punch of the morning due to some sharp edge's on the truck that we hadn't forseen being a problem (rear one was my fault coz I wasn't looking) This saw us taking some time out for a few repairs and then only having a front winch for the rest of the morning. Got a new rope sometime in the afternoon and then lost a front tyre off both beads of the wheel. We got it off (halfway through the punch) and after some failed attempts, managed to wrap the winch rope round it to get it to seal and blow it up (thankyou Craigy for the compressor) then about half hour later we lost the rear tyre :angry: . All in all we were pleased with the way the truck went, Its not as straight as it previously was but thats what happens when you play in the woods! Nothing serious, Just time consuming niggley problems. It hung together and worked well overall, Well done Pikey.

Thanks to all the Marshals, James and Simon for another cracking event, looking forward to the next one!

  6. I ran with tubes for a while and although it stopped me pushing tyre's off rims I then had trouble with tyre's turning on rims (at 10-15psi) and ripping the valves off that way. Also means you have to remove them and clean them regularly otherwise dirt between tyre and tube rubs them through. I then installed bead locks with the tube's and it made the stripping to clean a PITA and if I aired them down less that 10 PSI (depending what tyre's your running) you risk pinching the tube. So Ive gone tubeless with beadlocks and IMHO its the way to go. I carry a string type repair kit incase of puncture which is very quick and effective and is another advantage of tubeless.

  7. Nope, Fishguard to Rosslare on 25th, stopping in Cardiff on 24th.

    Peter

Pretty sure were Fishguard to Rosslare on the 25th too! Its a bit of a treck for me to get to Fishguard tho, Its not far but takes hours to drag the trailer along twisty narrow mountain roads as its cross country all the way from here :( :(

  8. Got pretty much all options covered already I reckon. Personally I like the tube idea as it gives all round protection. Also might be worth considering tubeless valves from a Quad/ATV, they will fit a std size rim hole but are much shorter so whatever you use to protect them can be made smaller and much less likely to get tangled up in the first place!

  9. Well, I am dutch and I think they are more disadvantage than advantage. You might occasionally use it, but as jim say (we agree) you can use your rear winch for this. Bearing in mind you add around 50 kg ( depending on which winch you use) which is holding you back anywhere you dont need it, I say dont bother.

Unless you double your rear up as a centre!

  10. I Reckon a set of Fedima anaconders will do the trick. They are a true 35 (not like the Fedima scciroco which is more like 37inch) and they are (a slim) 10.5 inch wide on a 7 inch rim. Tread pattern is a copy of the bogger and they seem to grip very very well. Not too much money, got to be worth looking at.

  11. I think a few are missing the point.........

They are not supposed to be Fia or Msa approved roll cage spec, they are just what they say they are Tubular wing frames.

They are a lot stronger than standard and give more protection than anything else available...........

That surely that makes them GOOD?

We can all pick holes, but the fact remains they do a very good job for less than a set of standard replacement wings, surely that is worth celebrating not remonstrating................

    I think there great :P

If they had been available when i did the SV (5yrs ago) i would not have hesitated and if i wanted more trianglation i would have added my own :D

Carry on Shaun, i think you've got a great product :)

    Jim :)

This was kind of my point Jim, They are meant for protecting from rubbing against tree's etc when it gets a bit tight, not to make an indestructable front end coz lets face it to do that your gona have a mental heavy truck and when you do prang it hard enough something more serious is gona have to give!
