  1. Thanks for the quick response. ill have to find the wires for the 12v socket elseware then.
  2. i don't need the wire to run electrics to a caravan as I have no intention to ever tow one. is there any way i can use that wiring then to run other things off it such as a second 12v socket in the boot or a rear spot light.
  3. Oh, didn't realise i had the electrics for a caravan. I only have one socket on the back for the lights for a normal trailer.
  4. While trying to move the tow electrics last night, I found a weird orange box in the access pannel for the rear driver side light cluster. The box has 5 wires going in all marked up. with things like fridge mentioned. where the wires go in. Couldn't get a good look at it. Does anyone know what it is and why its there. If its any use how do I use it. I have been told that there could be wires already wired in to take an extra 12v socket in the boot, it this something to do with that. Sorry about the rubish description but electrics are way aoutside my understanding.
  5. I'm an idiot I missed a fuse for the side lights didn;t realise there was two. The right hand side one was blown. Replaced it and everything is now working as it should.
  6. Went to the car tonight, and got a weird problem, I have no ilumination of the dials on the insturment cluster, when I turned my lights on. I also have no side lights but I do have main and full beam. My spot light which are wired into the fog light swith also do not work, (no idea why it was like that when I bought the car although it has never had fog light)Checked all the fuses I could think off for the instrument lights and the side light but all are fine. Please help as i can't drive the car if I can't see what my speed is and I nne dto use it over the weekend.
  7. my only reason for not wanting to use a preasure washer is, i have just had to replace my radiator as the previous owner had destroyed it by using a preasure washer on it. All the fins within sight of the grill were missing. So aslong as I am carefull then i should be fine. Okay I'll give it a go over the weekend.
  8. After a little off roading recently, my engine is now a lovely sand colour and could really do with a clean. Nothing too over the top, but i could at least do with been able to see the engine for the muck. so what is the best way to do it, I'm going any where near my disco with a preasure washer, so will a normal hose pipe and sponge do the job. What about soap, just like washing the car.
  9. I don't have cc in my disco, but do in my everyday day car an audi A6. Don't like to use it on long runs as I have found my concentration slips. As for mpg although not a lot of help there is little differnce and over a long journey its not worth worrying about.
  10. Okay i'm going to ring the shop and see if I can swap the battery, its just done one run in the car so hope the guy will go for it.
  11. I thought I did. The battery has the termainals on the right side I just forgot that on my old bettery they were on the top of the battery and the new ones on the bottom. Can't I just try to refastern the negative back to the car. the onle other battery thay had was by someone i had never heard off called Super Start.
  12. Okay may have done something stupid now. Got my new battery fitted, went for the Yuasa battery in the end Bought one with the terminals the whong way around. No problem i thought I'll put the battery in the other way and there must be enough cable to stretch. Now comes the silly bit. The negative cable was cfastened to the car itself. So I undid this giving me loads of room to move the terminal to the right of the battery, but I didn't reconect the negative lead back to the car. Now when I got in the car this morning. Its starts first time, go to select drive and the car stalls, not only does it stall but the clock resets itself. So no battery attatched. It did this twice before I got the car to actually move. Both times I just put it in P and the car would restart. So my question is what have I done and doe the negative lead need to be fastened to the car.
  13. Okay thanks for the advice.
  14. Silly question no doubt, but as I have bever had to do it before on any car. Is there any perticular way that I should change the battery on my disco. it's a n Reg 300tdi auto. I was looking at getting a Yuasa battery, anybody had one of these, its all my local place sells and the price is okay, just wondering about them working in cold weather.
  15. I got my diff oil in a 1 litre bottle from halfords it comes with its own built in little funnel that you pull out the top of the bottle. Really easy to use and no mess.
  16. Yea good news indeed. Nevre realised how much i missed driving the Landy untill its sat on your drive and you can't.
  17. Well I got it fixed at last, all it took in the end was a good amount of WD40 at the piviot between the throtle cable and the kickdown cable under the bonet. It was so still it wouldn't return to properly so was keeping the kickdown cable open. took it for a test yesterday and everything is back to normal.
  18. Just like everyone has said almost on top of the gearbox, A real pain to find, did mine a while ago, just use lots of light. the breather is comected to about 2 foot of black pipe that runs along the top of the gearbox. its meets up the breather from the transfer box aswell.
  19. Thanks for the link, I never seem able to find what I am looking for using the search, must not be using the correct wording or something.
  20. Do you know if there is anything in the tech archive about the auto kickdown cable, had a quick search but nothing came up.
  21. Had a chace to look at it the other day. The kickdown cable under the bonet was very slack, like it wasn't sprining back into place properly. I pushed the wire back down the sleaving and you could hear a click. i got in the vehicle and took it for a little drive and all was fine. The problem then became the wire going slack again after only 1 mile of driving. Does anyone know of a way to stop this.
  22. Thanks for the reply I'll have a look at the weekend.
  23. i ha dht esame thing with mine, never did find out what it was. It went away all by its self so never really thought that much about it.
  24. I change the gearbox in my discovery 1 only a few months ago, after it wouldn't change up. Everything has been fine until this morning. Its been a bit cold out my way minus 3 for the last few days and the car hasnt moved since saterday night. Got in this morning to give it a run and again the car wouldn't change up gear, only this time it felt like the auto kickdown was stuck open as there was no resistance in the peddle. The car did change at every 4000 revs and would change down again very quickly if the revs dropped. This got me thinking, is it possible that the auto kickdown is somehow frozen open or stuck, (not sure how it works to be honest). Or is the gearbox shot so I will need a new one again
  25. it makes no difference about the silly wheels or the shinny arches. A few goes down a tight green lane and it would be all scratched and muddy anyway like all good landrovers should be.
