  1. The colour may be a bit over the top, but its so unusual who would steal it, it would be spotted a mile off. My wife could use a car that colour, it would halp her find it in the carpark.
  2. So of ebay I have just got a wading kit, which contained the following 1 - front axle .. 2 - rear axle .. 3 - gearbox ... 4 - transfer box ... 5 - timing belt cover ... 6 - fuel tank breather !!!! Along with all the pipe. They also was 2 wading plugs. So my question, Is this all the breather holes and the wading plugs are spare or should they go somewhere aswell and if so where. Also do I need the fuel tank breather. It would be of grat help if anyone had pictues of all the breathers fitted so I know where they are all to go. thanks in advance for any help.
  3. I moved the gutter mount lastnight from just behind the rear door, to right up front next to the snorkel. When I checked the SWR reading it had fallen to 2.5. So i little improvement from 3. Although the mount did break while moving it. I've sent it back and now waiting for a replacement. Is a swr reading of 2.5 okay, what will a lower reading actually do, will it make a difference.
  4. I've been recomended by the shop to move the mount more to the frount of the vehicle as the high sides of the roof can effect the signal. I am going to try that tonight and see what I get. One question I have is, can I still use the CB with a SWr reading of 3 or will it cause the cb damage.
  5. The aerial is a just a normal aerial with a big spring thing attatched to the car with a gutter mount. Sorry for the lack of technical terms. the CB was bought as a package so we only chose the mount and the spring size.
  6. managed to get the wire sorted out. Got it to the battery by going through the hole that the throtle cable comes out. My problem now is that i can't get the SWR meter to read less than 3. The instructions say that this is too high but nothing I try seem to lower it. the ariel is a gutter mount behind the passenger rear door. with the wire run in the headliner and down the door pillar. Has anyone had a simular priblem. I think I am going to have to ring the guy where i got it from to see what he says. I just wanted to see if you had any idea's first.
  7. Is there a trick to getting the wire behind the dash, I couldn't see an easy way to do it. That is my biggest problem, I can't see how to hide the wires.
  8. My loving wife bought me a CB radio the other day. I've managed to mount the Cb itself the problem i'm having is thinking of a way to get the wires into the engine bay to get power from the battery. What is the easiest way to get wire there without having to start taking things apart. Or could you wire it into the fuse box. I have no idea how to do this so lots of detail would be needed. if it makes a defference its a midland 278. i've put the CB on the dash just above the radio, if that helps. Many thanks in advance
  9. Not sure, it doesn't really get to go around any corners at any speed over 60. Once up to that speed it seem to do it no matter if i'm going straight or around a corner. Although on a different matter the steering did seem very light when turning sharp right this evening on the way home, but fine when I had to turn left.
  10. After driving the car this morning I noticed that the vibration was a lot less on a smooth road. I've looked around the car for all the areas already mentioned but they all seem fine. I do know that my stearing damper is on its way out if and was wondering if this could cause the problem. I am running out of ideas and don't fancy putting it into a gararge for they to try to sort out.
  11. That happened to me, I tried to drill it out but the bolts are very strong and to took forever to drill out. Also I ended up making a mess and missing slightly and drilled down the side of the bolt. I wouldn't recomend the drilling technoique but no idea how else to get the bolts out.
  12. I had just put the tyres back on after an offroading trip using different tyres. I looked around the vehicle and everythiung seems fine, So i'll get the wheels balanced. I guess I could put my offroad tyres on and try that to at least eliminate the tyres as a problem. I maybe should have thought about that earlier.
  13. Is there a way to check the bearings without taking the whole hub apart.
  14. not too sure I'll have to check when I can get back under the vehicle.
  15. Took the discovery out last night, and everything was fine upto around 50-55 mph after that a got a vibration through the steetring wheel that got worse the faster I went. I pushed her upto 70 but couldn't atand the vibration, not so much on the steering wheel but from the footwell of the car. I was wondering if this is normal.,As the car behaves so good at around 50. I can't see it been an issue other than its an old car which has done a few thousand miles,(okay 170,00). What do you all think is it something I should worry about.
  16. Thanks for all the responses. I'll have a look at sorting it this weekend with the ideas that you have all given me.
  17. How then do you take the free play out of a steetring box on a discovery. The tyres are new so can't be those. Everything else seems fine i've been under the vehicle but couldn't see anything obviously wrong, thants what lead me to think it was the stearing damper.
  18. I know that the strearing on a discovery is not the sharpest in the world, but mine feels a little funny, what exactly does the stearing damper do and could this cause the stearing to become more wooly, if it was worn. Any help would be appreciated.
  19. I got mine from Paddocks 235/85 special tracks they fitted them on to some wheels for me and posted them out for next day delivery.
  20. got the tyres fitted, Had to trim the rear arch just a bit only took about 2 inch off the rear of the arch and cut the silly plasic thing fron the other side, a articulation test showed no touching on any of the wheels, so well pleased. i'll post pictures later in the week, but i've now seen a few disc's trimmed how i did it so it must be quite a common place to trim.
  21. It's been lifted be 2", I've talked to other disco owners who are running the same and they don't seem to have a problem. So i am now wondering if the suspension is sagging a bit, as i bought the car already lifted. i have no datails of how old the suspension is. I got the rear tyres to fit okay, no cutting needed. the front fit but had to be trimmed as they court on full lock. the rears now seem to catch an any sort of acticulation, but i will look into this tonight and just cut as needed, as i am greenlaning on saturday so need the tyres to fit.
  22. I had a problem with my car not starting a while back, mine is a 1995 300tdi. Not quite the same as yours as my alarm would go off. I had to manually reset the immobiliser. In the manual there is a section about tunring the key certain number of times a certain way like you would a save lock. Each code is seperate to each vehicle, and the keycard should be in the manual. i tried that and it worked first time. Never had a problem after that. although i did also change both batteries in the key fobs.
  23. Thats nasty, why would you wnat one that colour, now maybe if they came in a blue , No really thats is too much. unless it helps you locate them in the mud when damaged.
  24. i just put on a new set of tyres last night and they seem to catch at the back of the front wheel arch (near the doors) does any one have a picture of how they have trimmed this area. Apart from hack at the car till they fit i'm out of ideas. The tyres are 235/85/16 insa special track. if that helps.
  25. Do they work the same way that the movable weights in a golf club work. these are guarenteed not to work loose but do not use friction, to hold them in place. If you want a detailed description I have no idea I even took one apart once to have a look, I would love to know how it does actually work.
